Hello I have just seen your advert on gumtree and would like to give you some words of warning.
If all 3 boys live together and are happy ie; not fighting or being aggressive towards one another you should not be splitting their little bond up, guinea pigs easily become depressed when alone.
I notice you say that you will be letting your remaining guinea pig live with your pet rabbit, this is wrong on many levels; the reality of this could end you up with a dead guinea pig or badly bitten rabbit/guinea pig. A guinea pig would not be housed with a hamster, gerbil, mouse, rat, chinchilla or any other small animal for that matter so why people think its "ok" for rabbits and guinea pigs living together is stupidity.
Rabbits and guinea pigs cannot communicate, rabbits are very quiet animals and will only scream if in extreme pain or fear, where as a guinea pig will squeak for food and at the best of times guinea pigs are very vocal animals. When guinea pigs squeak rabbits are totally unaware of their way of communication so therefore there is no such thing as a rabbit and guinea pig being friends. Rabbits have very powerful back feet, no matter what size or breed of rabbit they are as twice as strong as guinea pigs, a fatal kick can be given by a rabbit at anytime.
Diet, there is no way on this earth that you can give the rabbit food and guinea pig food correctly, rabbits will eat anything put in front of them and they do not know the difference of eating their own food or guinea pig food. Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C and therefore need extra in their diet, rabbits however don’t need extra vitamin C.
Rabbits also carry fatal diseases that can be passed on to guinea pigs; the disease is called Bordetella bronchiseptica it’s the most common bacteria causing respiratory disease in guinea pigs. It results in abnormal respiratory sounds, sneezing, nasal discharge, lack of appetite, depression, weight loss and in severe cases death. Up to 80% of rabbits have this in their bodies and show no signs of it, the only times where this can be present is under stress or when they have a low immune system, this then leads to snuffles which left untreated can kill the rabbit within days.
Please think before you act or maybe put yourself in your guinea pigs shoes: If you lived with a ape, you can’t communicate with it and it can’t communicate with you but yet you still have to share the same environment, you have to eat exactly the same things each day and you have to live with the fact that the ape could kill you at any given time would you be happy with your “friendâ€.
If you want to find a good home for them rehome via a rescue where the home is home checked and where the guinea pigs will live a long happy life in a correctly sized cage.
This is sent to you by a very knowable rabbit & guinea pig owner; please take the warning after all prevention is better than a cure.
It just sickens me to think this goes on each day, I have 4 rabbits of my own and they are very powerful to say the least, I wouldnt even think of letting them live togethermallethead
Born Christmas Day (so 6 months old) I have now decided I can't really justify keeping all 3 brothers (Harpo Groucho & Chico) even though they are all so beautiful - and so I am being sensible and letting 2 (Groucho & Chico) of them go to a new home.
They will need to go together as they are such good mates.
I will keep Chico in with my baby Netherland for company.
Harpo and Groucho are accustomed to living in my shed but would be ok outside in the summer.
I will provide a care Leaflet and one week's worth of food to thier new owner.
