My sister had just brought my piggies a harness and lead.. I'm not sure my views on it, so i thought id come and ask you guys..
Does anyone use them? or are they just really cruel?

No ......please dont use them they are cruel :(

Why would you want to put your piggie in a harness anyways (not a direct question at you, but the manufacturer)....its not as if you can take them for a walk down the shops is it!?:{

I don't think they are a great idea - certainly not the ones that I've seen for ferrets and rabbits.

I have seen ones that look like little waistcoats, which at least look like they wouldn't be as uncomfortable. But, I still can't think of any reason a harness would ever be needed.

Many years ago when I did have a rabbit, I put a harness and lead on her, but only because when she ran around the garden, I often found it very difficult to catch her again. She was supervised at all times and the harness and lead was only to give me a chance to catch her. Having said that, I don't think I would use one again in such circumstances.

well, I would never walk them down the shops lol, I was just thinking of letting them have a run around the garden, as its not very secure.
I dont think I will use it though.

ball, wheels, harnesses and leads can all injure a piggy spine!

please dont use it they are made to make money not for piggies. also from what i've heard piggies can get out of them.

if you want to let them out in the garden invest in a run :)

Wheels, leads/harnesses are not only cruel, they are downright dangerous and can lead to spine injuries and permanent pain.

Just because guinea pigs happen to fit into a ferret harness doesn't mean that it is safe for them - they don't have the flexible spines like ferrets or hamsters! Yet another shop gimmick! :(

I would never dream of putting a piggy in a harness. I used to have one for Rusty, my 14lb big rabbit, she used to love going for a walk in hers.

NO absolutly not. The amount of sites ive emailed selling these for pigs...

They can BREAK there spine!

It's animal abuse plain and simple.

Harnesses are a definite NO - but it was sensible to ask before using it.

I have seen these, and I'm a new piggie owner, and my first thought was "how cruel!" I wouldn't dream of putting one of those on my piggie.

Leads/harnesses are no good for them and they don't like to wear them. When I first had some Guinea pigs I did fall for the harness thing, my Guinea pigs hated it and that is how I knew not to use them. I didn't have the internet back then, to be honest you live and learn.

I used one on my first piggy to be honest with you it was a waste of £5, Squeak was out of it within 2 seconds! To be fair I was only 10/11 at the time so I didn't know of the risks.

Best thing to let your piggy have some exercise is a play pen, I picked one up for £5 off ebay and it was brand new, safe, cheap and not scary for the piggy in question :)

What if your careful?

I really want my mummy to let me run around but not get lost. Hi, I'm a baby piggle, Bonnie. Anyway, what if mummy doesn't tug on it but uses it as a precaution for one of my wild moments where I just run? She's not going to be walking me for kilometres or miles or whatever. Maybe just around our yard, which isn't secure because it's an acre. Please, I know it has the possibility to injure me but.... hmmm I really want to explore. Is there preferences for harnesses? Are thin ones worse than 'full' harnesses like the mesh ones on eBay?

Please do not used ANY kind of harness. Even for a short period of time.
One wrong move Bonnie could be very seriously injured!

How about buying a secure run for your garden instead :)
