My guniea pig has recently had a bladder stone removed twice as size. His been on sulfatrim which made him lose weight so his been taken of it. Then he was put on mectam and baytril until i noticed blood in his wee which then he got a higher dosage. But the mectam seems not to be helping the pain and his still squeaking. I took a wee sample in and got it testes but it came with nothing wrong. But my guniea pig is still squeaking in pain and I'm not sure what can cause it .
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum
So sorry that you are dealing with a sick piggy.
It sounds as if you need to go back to the vet.
Is your vet experienced with guinea pigs?

If you are in the UK look at the vet locator which has a list of recommended vets - it’s not comprehensive but these are all vets that members know are good with guinea pigs.
If you are not in the UK I believe GuineaLynx has lists of recommended vets.

It helps to guide you if you add your location as another member in the same area may know a vet who is nearby but not on the forum list.

Hope things work out for you.
Assuring you of my support

Hi!

Please have your guinea pig x-rayed again as soon as possible; sometimes another stone can unfortunately form very quickly after the first has been removed. If the screaming is suddenly very loud, it means that a stone could be stuck in the urethra. Boars have an awkward inglenook.

Please always contact your vet clinic promptly if your guinea pig is not recovering as it should or is suddenly getting worse in the wake of an operation.

Please make sure that your boy can still pee. If not, he needs to be seen by a vet as a life and death emergency, especially if he suddenly stops eating, becomes lathargic and starts going downhill very quickly.

Calcium absorption is a complex process. If it has gone out of kilter it can take some time to settle down again.
We have got special diet tips for guinea pigs with urinary tract/bladder problems, which are usually pretty effective in the longer term, but it takes time to restore the balance and work any excess calcium out of the body.

All the best!

Thank you all for your replys and support,
Henry is all healthy. His had an xray had everything checked through propely they ruled out stones and everything else. Had another wee sample and nothing came up. His been prescribed cystophan to help his bladderx the vet said the pain might be from where the stone was very big and hard to get out x just needs everything to settle down x

I wish you and your pig all the best, I'm dealing with what looks like a possible bladder issue with my sow right now. Glad to hear about the good vet news

Good to hear there’s nothing seriously wrong.
I’m sure with time and your care he’ll recover soon

What a relief for you!

Bladder trauma in the tissue affected and highly irritated by the stone in the wake of a bladder stone op or passing a large stone can happen, and it is very painful. The first step is always to make sure that there are no more stones.

Stay on the metacam (anti-inflammatory) as high has possible until the bladder settles down and stay on the cystophan for a long time to come. It is not a medication but a cat food bladder supplement that is glucosamine based in order to support the natural glucosamine coating of the bladder walls. You can order it quite easily online.

Thank you everyone😊 hopefully we will get there in the end
