One of my girls seems to have a gurgling noises in her stomach when she is eating. She ate some grass yesterday and it did not gurgle and she was fine but tonight and a few nights when she eats her veg it makes a rumbling/gurgling sound. It only does it like once or twice and not every night (though have only heard it in the past week).

She is completely fine in her self still squeaking, eating and drinking and running around normally. I have also tapped her tummy to see if it was bloat but it is not hollow or anything.

Just not sure if I need to be worried or if it is just something strange.
Any advice appreciated, I have never heard of this before.
Thanks

Several of our pigs gurgle when they eat and also when resting. It's part of their digestion process. Check to see if it's tummy is soft to the touch. If it feels hard or distended then that is a sign of bloat and is a matter of urgency to get to a vet.

Gurgling is fairly normal, but occasionally it can be louder. If it is not down to bloating, but you are worried, just give a little bit less or no fresh veg and grass for a day or two. Up to 80% of the diet should be unlimited, always available hay anyway; that is the best thing to keep the guts steady.

Thanks guys I didn't know it was normal. I have had guineas for years and never heard it before. I am sure it is not down to bloating so I might just cut down the veg for a few days see if that makes a difference.

Thanks again.

Also put a bit of rough, nutritionally poor fibre like some brown cardboard in the cage; guinea pigs whose tummy is a bit unbalanced seem to crave it.

Alternatively, you could syringe a bit of poo soup, which you make by soaking fresh, moist poos from a healthy companion in a little water. Syringe the water - it is a bit gross, but it contains all the right bits to re-stock the guts and mimics natural behaviour. A caecotroph (redigested poo) would be even better, but they are rather hard to come by!
A pinch of probiotics twice daily can also help if the gurgling is not just a one off.

If those measures don't help, then I would recommend to see a vet for some zantac.
