Just got back from the vet with gummy gus. His top two teeth will grow back OK and everything else is good. Apart from when she wanted to trim his bottom teeth. All hell broke loose! He bit...or gummed the vet constantly, with lots of kicking and wriggling until I told her to stop. There was no way he was going for it. His bottom teeth are a good length anyway. No need to trim them.
After that ordeal she gave me metacam and baytril. I have no idea how I'm to get him to take it.:help:

I find baytril and metacam easy to give to pigs, a bit of fruit puree and they happily take it from the syringe I use :-)

You can give it a couple of seconds apart yes, but don't mix it in one syringe if thats what you meant...

Glad it went well. The metacam will not be an issue, most piggies love the taste of it and will tug the syringe out of your hands....

Baytril - This tastes foul, no wonder they don't like it. We just get it in as quickly as possible... When Treacle used to have it (she was a powerhouse and wriggle) I used to hold her on the tabletop so her paws couldn't grip and Rach would syringe the Baytril in quickly. But as Bekki said above you can sweeten the Baytril if you wish, we found this didn't work with ours as a rule and would rather get a smaller amount of fluid in... Just go with whatever works best for you.

Lots of vibes to Gus

Thanks SB. I've braved the baytril. Quick pop in the mouth after a wriggle, wasn't too bad. Can I just give the metacam on its own in the syringe? It says to give with food. Gus is always nibbling at something so that shouldn't be an issue.

It's fine to give it without food... they always eating anyway lol

Well done on the baytril!

Thanks to all of you! I've kept the boys separate. Think gus could use some quiet time to get over his big scary adventure. Walter would just rumble at him and want to play/argue. I'll give walter some extra cuddles. He must feel left out.

Oh, poor little chap. Metacam tastes like honey so the piggies usually try to self medicate. Baytril on the other hand is pants tasting, so perhaps draw up a little neat Ribena into the syringe after you have the baytril in it, to make it taste a little more bearable. Hope he is soon feeling better
