Hi everyone sorry for the dramatic title. I am really nervous though. Me and my Fiance are heading out of the country for 2 weeks. We are going to be leaving our 2 little girls with a friend from work who has pets of her own and has looked after piggies for other friends before. I am just really nervous about leaving them.

We got them at the beginning of June but I feel like we have had them for years we love them so much and I am just freaking out about leaving them with someone else even though I know they will be looked after.

I am going to be writing a list of their needs and how to clean the cage with regards to the fleece and stuff I just wish I could take them with me.

I guess I'm just looking for some words to help me calm down and not worry too much. any advice welcome.

Thanks for reading :)

You are leaving your piggies with someone you know and trust, who has experience of piggies, which is about the best anyone can do I should think.

One thing perhaps is, are your 2 registered with a vet? If not, i would get them registered with and checked over by a good vet before you go away, and ensure that your friend has the vet's number and address and is happy to take them should they show any sign of illness or injury. Not that illness or injury is likely, but it's one less thing to worry about! :)

It's always worrying when you have to leave your pets, I have to leave my piggies for a few days every month when I go away for work and I absolutely hate it - I don't know how I'd cope for 2 weeks so I understand how nervous you must be!

When I go away I write a very detailed list of what medications/veg/hay they've to get and when they've to get it.

I'm very particular in how I like the cage to be cleaned so I always leave "instructions" for that too :P

I'd leave the number of your vets and come up with a plan as to what your friend should do if they need to go to the vets, especially out of hours as it can be costly (will you leave money or would your friend pay then you pay her back?)

My mum always sends me videos/pictures of the pigs when I'm away which helps a lot. Relax and enjoy your holiday when it comes

You obviously know and trust this lovely person who is willing to take on your piggies for a fortnight. As long as they are fed, watered and cleaned out there won't be a problem. Leave detailed instructions and they will be fine! I'm lucky cos when I go away my neighbours over the road look after mine and they used to breed piggies so are fine with the handling, any medication etc. Once though I had to leave them with my other neighbour who had no experience of any pet apart from petsitting a cat! She came round for a tutorial on all things piggie and I left detailed instructions on food, water, hay, pellets, veg ...... and they were fine. I go away in a couple of weeks and my friend is coming over to look after them for the first couple of days as both neighbours are away! Oh life gets complicated! What with 3 children, a husband and 5 piggies to manage I need a holiday!

Relax, enjoy your holiday and your piggies will enjoy there's. It's great when you come back home they are sooooo excited to see you that they squeak and wheak and whistle and it's just lovely!

When I came back to Jingle and Mistletoe after being away for eleven days I was greeted with wheeks as soon as opened the front door. They are not lap piggies but do like a routine which was more or less stuck to.

They were totally fine. Have lovely holiday.

Last time I went away for a week (my teenage son was looking after the pigs in my absence), I was really looking forward to those welcoming wheeks! What did I get? Deafening silence! I think I was in the doghouse for days after ... :coat:

Don'r freak out! It sounds like you have done everything possible to ensure they are going to a caring pet owner to be looked after. Could your friends send you pics and updates so you can see throughout your holiday that they are ok?

it is always a worry,i would ensure you leave a vets telephone number,so you can be sure if ill they will be seen/very unlikely this will be needed, just leave alist of your daily routine with your pets.i put my piggies on disposable bedding if i go away,it makes it easier for the pet sitter, but ive 20 in total.
