Junior Guinea Pig
Hi
p
We've had our piggies Clem and her baby Avril (just over 7 weeks old!) for 9 days now! (from the lovely Suzy!) So wanted to come on and share some pics and how they're doing!
It's been really exciting watching the sweet but timid Clem and her funny, zoomy daughter settle in. At first they hardly moved from their 'positions' - Clem took up residence in the log tunnel, Avril tried to join her but kept getting butted out so made her home in the corner next to it!
We decided to keep their cage in the kitchen for a few months and see how it goes (we were going to keep them in the conservatory but we've had a problem with a damp wall plus, even without that, it's soooo cold in there!). The first few days we literally crept around the kitchen making food as quietly as poss, washing up quietly (somehow that made me even more clumsy than I already am, and kept dropping pans and 'crashing' things together! What am I like! rolleyes). My daughter and I took up silent residence in the kitchen for a few hrs each day, just sitting there watching them from a distance! Then when my husband walked in casually, we'd be like,"SSSSHHHH! Avril's in the tunnel!", or "SSSSSHHHH! Clem's about to come out!" Poor guy, he just shook his head at us. Not only was he not too keen on the idea at getting pigs at first, but now he's not allowed to walk in his own kitchen! Brilliant!
As the week has gone on, the girls have started venturing out a lot more. My husband even told me the other day that Clem was doing laps around the cage, can't believe I missed it! What was just as brilliant was that my husband sounded fairly excited himself! Plus me and my daughter hear him talking to them when we're in the lounge. He's such a big softie, we so knew he'd love them once we got them. Even though he will not admit it yet and just says,"yeah, they're okay". Yeah, RIGHT! He loves them already! x)
We've been getting them out for cuddles twice a day for 20 - 30 mins. Avril really protests and 'bubbles and squeaks' her way through it! Clem is starting to like it we think and almost enjoys a bit of space from her daughter - when Avril kicks up a real fuss we let her go to her mum but you can tell that Clem isn't too impressed as Avril burrows under her telling her mum all about it!
Clem loves broccoli and savoy cabbage, Avril loves hay, hay and more hay. I can't believe she can fit so much in her. I put a few handfuls in in the morning and suddenly, after an hour and much munching, it's disappeared!
They have discovered other parts of the cage they like now they're more adventurous - we've hung a stubbie fleece tunnel on the side of the cage, but touching the floor, and Avril hides in there and thinks we can't see her.
I laughed this morning though - HUGE lump in the stubbie tunnel, obviously Clem has now discovered it and so Avril is **** not allowed in there anymore!
Avril has discovered floor 2 of the cage though - brave girl!
I will shut up now, sorry for the overflow of excitement.
Thanks for persevering and getting this far! x x x x
