Today I cleaned the piggies out in the shed, P ut them safely back into the hutch and came indoors to do the water bottles leaving the door open. I was stood at the sink in view of the shed which is next to the house and a FOX was about to enter the shed well I ran shouting like a banshee grabbing a broom. It walked up my garden stood there just looking at me. Now I live close to the city these urban foxes are blatant it was broad daylight and had gone past my back door that was open so had seen me. Please everyone be on your guard I was so lucky that the piggies where back in the hutch. It does not bare thinking what could of happened if I had nipped to the toilet or had not seen the fox.
A few years ago I'd just let my rabbit out for his run and went to fill his bottle when I heard what sounded like grunting and screeching, I ran outside and saw a fox run off, that was the last time I saw my rabbit :'( my poor rabbit :'( but it has taught me not to leave my pets unattended outside even for a split second. I seriously never thought Fox's came out in daylight.
We have a nature reserve thing behind us, so we tend to see a lot of foxes... I always check at night that all the hutch is secure etc etc... You can never be too careful..
I think thats where my rabbit 'disappeared' to. THere one day no sign the next. When he had escaped previously he would come when called then run awa as you were about to catch him.
I did see lots more foxes around here when the council introduced the recycling bins. The normal bins are only emptied on alternative weeks so get alot more smelly which the foxes like.
I'm going to have to be ultra careful this year with my piggies when they go outside because if it was a fox who got the rabbit it will have this place noted as a restaurant :-\
we live right opposite Brading downs and foxes are everywhere, thats why I have wire on my shed windows when they are left open, we also get wild cats around here that have been released from a local park a few years ago they tend to go for sheep and horses though, my daughter in laws horse got his butt ripped >
Oh my god thats quite scary really!
Where my sister & I grew up her & her farmer boyf used to sit & watch this big black cat - kind of puma like. It used to feed mainly on rabbits - it took a few lambs. What he & his father used to do was take any rabbits they shot to this thicket where the cat seemed to live & leave it 'food'. This kept the attacks on the sheep down. They were big softies this family because they could have quite easily killed it, what with being a risk to their stock. Instead the old farmer & his wife used to take pic nics in the car & watch it every sunday. How sweet!
My rabbit midge also dissapeared in the daytime as well and it must have been a fox and i live in the city my house backs onto a lane and a school so there is open land i was so upset :'(
It was about again today drinking water from next doors water feature. I have lived here 10 years now and I see a lot more foxes now than when we first lived here. The window cleaner told me that no end of the gardens have dens in them around here. Its mainly in elderly peoples gardens that are over grown but next doors garden is and he is a young bloke. I am sure that there is foxes living in his old run down shed I have asked him loads of times to check it. I never leave the piggies unatended they were inside the hutch when I saw it. Does anyone know what I could buy to deter them from my garden? apart from a blood hound. They dig massive holes to in my flower beds.
