I keep McMac on the plain Excel nuggets but the end of last week I ran out. So I walked down to my local pet shop to grab some when there weren't any. So I went home and asked my mum if she could take me into pets at home but my brother had taken her car :Ayociexp121: god dam brother is always stealing her car so me and mum have no way of getting around in an emergency.

So I was like ok it's only one night I will get some tomorrow. So the next day I go to my mum could we go to pets at home and she says she has an hospital appointment and is waiting for my brother who as her car to drop her off :laluot_08:

So the next day. Oh my brother is still using my mums car! :laluot_14: so I go down to my local again to see if anything has come in and they have the Excel blackcurrent and oregano version. I say it's better then nothing, he's had some before mixed with the normal one and I buy it. But now I don't think he is eating any...It's very hard to tell...I hope he does eat it because I got a whole bag that needs eating! How could I check that he is eating? Should I measure what I put in his bowl?

Very boring but at work when we are unsure an animal is eating we count out the number of kibble we place in a bowl and then at a set time count them again to see any have been eaten.

x.

I think I will have to do it. I am sure if he is starving he will eat it...right? :...

But I will count the little pellets :) to make sure

I'm having the same problem although my girls are still eating their Wagg guinea pig crunch. They also have pets at home nuggets but they seem to have gone off these so most of them are going in the bin!. I brought them a bag of science selective with dandelion this morning so I'm hoping they eat it mallethead

Mine love the P@H nuggets and always go mad for them, but they also love the SS and B&O nuggets too.

Having a similar problem here as Asda have stopped selling the nuggets I use. Have been giving the boys extra hay and their usual 2 plates of veggies which they are eating up. They've got some different nuggets which they sometimes eat and a bowl of the mixed up Wagg stuff - I keep trying to figure out which bits they like! Do you weigh them regularly? It will help you to check they are eating OK. Good luck!

my friend ran out of food the other day and couldnt get to the shop so her rabbits/guinea pigs had hay, carrots and bits of weetabix......she said they loved them! ok in an emergency!

Rather than counting them you could just weigh/measure them, less time consuming I would think. I found that my pigs seemed to eat the blackcurrant and oregano ones more slowly than the normal ones but I think it's partly to do with the size of the pellets (I'm not sure if they're actually eating them more slowly or a 'handful/bowlful' is actually a different amount). It did seem to take them a day or so to adapt to them and they were more inclined to tip them out the bowl but they finished the bag happily enough. I'm now trying the ones with mint and they scoff those down. I do mix the last of the old food with the new food when I change over though.

I'm sure that so long as he has his hay and veggies a day making up his mind about whether he likes slightly different pellets won't hurt.

took my piggies a few days to get use to nuggets instead of the muesli stuff they munch it down now tho. never known a rodent so fussy!

Oh yeah weighing them would have been better, I just filled a small cup up and I will see how far it has gone down. He has plenty of hay and his veg so I'm sure I can figure something out. If changing from one type of food to another that is the same type of brand (ie I usually get plain Excel but these are blackcurrent) is it still possible to upset their tummies :... It's just I didn't have anything left over to mix the new bag with and he might not be eating them because he's not used to them

My boys were museli eaters when we got them but have switched them to the Burgess Blackcurrant and Oregano nuggets now, took 3 weeks to get them to eat it though, they were holding out for the museli but I wasn't giving in!

don't give up, as long as they get veg and hay too the dried stuff is less important
