Well I have had to separate Alby and fudge. ;( they have been very dominant to each other with neither one wanting to back down. I have tried a bonding bath and changing the bedding in the cage. But to no avail. Also discovered Alby has some cuts on him. Not sure if bite wounds. (Quite long cuts, not deep) I separated them with a grids divider between them 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 c&c each. This was last night, however they went mad to get to each other (trying to bite through bars, or leap over divider) I thought ok give them one more chance together. However was woken at 5am with them going crazy and teeth chattering/lungeing at each other. I am so sad as I had to put one of them into the pet carrier (I know not ideal bit only option as they were fighting.)

I don't know what to do for the best. As my husband doesn't want 4 guinea pigs in the house. And to be honest I feel it would be too much also. I need to come up with a solution as I can't leave one in the pet carrier. Also if I split the c&c with grids they are going crazy to get to each other. Can a previously bonded pair fall out? I am confused. Amd feel guilty as I improved their cage recently this has resulted in the fighting. ;(

I'm sorry I can't really give much useful advice as I've only ever had one boar but would it be possible to raise the height of the divider for now so they can't get over it, as a temporary solution. I think they would settle after a while of trying to get to one another and that way they would still have companionship side by side? I hope this can get sorted for you!

Thanks. They are biting and digging up the fleece trying to get to one another. I have brought in my old ferplast rabbit 100 cage for just now and put one of them in that. I might put grids with clear Perspex on them between them when I get some. Also need to extend the cage by I set of grids.

I wish I could advise more :( I'm sure someone will be along soon who has experience with boars falling out :( I think the cage will be fine for now, at least they aren't harming eachoother for now. *hugs*

Yeah. Thanks. I kind of already know the answer. They have to be separated. Alby is glad of the rest I think. He's settled and sleeping. Fudge is running around the small cage like a nutter. Lol. I feel better now he's out the carry cage.

It's always horrible when things don't work out. Try not to fret too much, they are safe for now and not coming to furthur harm and you are doing your best for them. Perhaps they can be re-introduced after a period of time? I hope it can be solved.

Oh I'm so sorry, you must be really worried. Sounds like you've done the best thing though, and hopefully they'll settle down and enjoy being near each other again. Sounds like they've settled down a bit now though thankfully x

I don't think I am going to put them together again without a divider/grids between them as it was a horrible fight. Naughty boys! Lol.

I am very sorry that his has happened. Can you tie something firm as an opaque divider to the separating grids? The biting should stop after a day or two.

Ok thanks all. I will need to look into getting some more corex so they can each have a 3x2 c&c. If I put clear Perspex onto the grids that may work. Fudge will have to stay in the ferplast cage until I get organised. ;(

I am sure Fudge will be ok for a while, he has you to snuggle him too so i wouldn't worry too much. I don't think the perspex will need to be there forever as Wiebke said and they should eventually live side by side with just the grids so this still gives them companionship. I know before I lost my one and only boar after he was nuetered he was just separated from the girls with grids and was as happy as larry!

Thanks all. Got Perspex today. Now just waiting for corex to be delivered and connectors then I can get modifying this cage  Again. :hb:

Don't tell me... My layout has changed umpteen times! The good thing about C&C is that at least you can change!

I bought lots of slide binders so it will be fine. Don't know about my fingers though. lol.

That's what I meant- the HORROR of slide binders ha ha. Good luck with your new cage, hope it doesn't take too long x

Well Fudge isn't happy. He's head butting the plastic shelve in the ferplast cage loudly so it bangs. (He's underneath it.) also trying to bite his way out of the cage along the top of the tray. :( I have got my Perspex and now it's a waiting game for the corex and connectors and I also need 1 more grid. Ordered today. I feel like a meany. Fudge is distraught, meanwhile Alby is enjoying the rest. Had him out for lap time yesterday to check his wounds he looks as if he's healing ok. Poor soul. I hope fudge settles when he can see Alby again. But I have a feeling he will try and get to him as don't think he wants to be alone. :(

Perhaps for now you can remove the tray so he doesn't hurt himself? Do you have grids already to split the cage, if so perhaps it's worth setting them up temporarily without the correx so that they can see eachother. The bar biting etc should calm down after a couple of days x

I don't have enough grids to make a barrier and room for them both to have a 2x3. One of them would be on a 2x2. I need one more grid. ;(

:( I don't know whether some mesh would do? You can get sheets from B&Q quite cheaply if that helps?

I ordered the grid and connectors this morning. Can't remove the tray as it's the base of the cage. He's stopped for now. Thinkin it was a protest as I was in the room and walked out then he started banging. Lol.

He's a terror. Lol. My father in law is coming to cut the Perspex for me. So I might split the cage and give Alby the 2x2 for a temporary measure until the grids come. Then I will give him a 3x2 the same as fudge. Honestly they are driving me crazy. Lol :bronco:

I don't think he will come to any harm in a 2x2 for now if he can see Fudge, it's probably better than being away from him x

Oh Julie, I'm really sorry to hear about your boys :( must be something in the air.

I think I'll be doing the same as you (I've managed to calm down after my panic the other day & taken on board Wiebke's advice - thank you :) of taking time to decide what to do). Don't want to lose either of ours, so they will just have to live apart but near.

Hope all calms down, they can't stay cross at each other forever ;)
