Her eye was very red and watery and half open when I came down to see them this morning.

Went off to the emergency vets, £138, nice! Large corneal ulcer no sign of any foreign body in the eye so hopefully med's will work quickly and it will soon heal :)

All the best! Out-of-hours vets can be eye watering for the owner, but it is good that you have had her seen promptly with an ulcerating eye injury; it is most likely a hay poke or scratch wound. Eye injuries can develop very quickly; the sooner you can treat, the better.
Try to get 3-4 lots of eye gel/drops in today and tomorrow to get the ulcer and the discomfort down as quickly as possible.

If you struggle to get eye drops into a sore eye, try to disctract your piggy with a plate of grass or favourite veg on the front by your knees, so you can sneak up from behind once it is fully absorbed in munching. Piggies don't multitask. Especially not when food is involved!

So sorry that Hettie has injured her eye. Emergency vets can also seriously injure your wallet. You have done the absolute best thing for her by getting her to the vets so quickly. I hope she soon starts to feel better.

It amazed me that there was absolutely no sign of anything wrong with the eye when I was holding her around teatime yesterday. Then this morning, awful :(

A hay poke can happen at any time - I once went out at 3pm to collect kids from school and all was well -then found a hay poke by the time I got back around an hour later. They must be so sore for the piggies, but prompt treatment works brilliantly. Hettie is lucky to have you.

Well done for getting to the vets so quickly and getting medical attention, it really does make a difference. Painful on the wallet  yep. Healing vibes for Hettie.

Yes, it was the pain that was worrying me the most thinking how painful it is for us Humans if we just get a bit of dust in our eye!

Much more improvement this morning, no redness and not watery :) I was putting her drops in and she was licking my arm :) Tilly has also been grooming Hetties poorly eye for her :)

Have booked her in at my own Vets on Friday for a checkup.

Glad she seems to be on the mend

Well done, your piggy should be well quickly, because of your quick actions.

Regarding your costs, ever wonder why vets drive posh cars.
