Our female g.p keeps getting haematuria. She is on Meloxidyl 1mg/kg and cystease. She responds to Septrim 50mg/ kg twice daily. This time she had a 21 day course and with in less than a week of the antibs finishing the haematuria is back. She has been scanned and radiographed, which showed nothing! Unless she has antibiotics the haematuria continues but once the antibs are started the blood stops. Whilst she is happy we will continue but we are starting to think is putting her to sleep the kind thing to do. Can she stay on antibiotics long term? Her weight is stable, I weigh her daily and restrict calcium intake. Feel so helpless : (

I’m sorry to hear that.

Have your vets said what the issue is given no stones or other issues were found? (assuming her urine was tested for the presence of bacteria and that her reproductive organs were also checked during the scanning)

If no bacteria was found in the urine and nothing else can be found anywhere, Have your vets mentioned sterile cystitis as a possibility?

Sterile cystitis is a urinary condition which is not a bacterial infection so while antibiotics can suppress it, they will not cure it and the issues will return once antibiotics are stopped.
Pain meds and glucosamine is used in the management of sterile cystitis - which I see you are already doing.
