Hi all,
I own a sheltie guinea pig, and was wandering about hair cuts, I have heard its important to keeps them cool and stop their fur from getting matted, my boar has got quiet a long coat but it never seems to get knotty I only ever have to brush it about once a week, as I could leave it for ages and not a single tangle! I was wandering if there was any good hair cutting scissors that people recommend, I have cut it before, but with normal scissors and that was quiet a task!
thanks
Jess and the boars x

It's especially good to keep the hair short near their rear ends.

I'm sure your petstore has rodent/pet-friendly scissors and if they don't I believe human bikini-area/beard trimmers are good and easy to find. If your confident with your hand and don't want to use something electric I do believe human hair scissors are fine.

sometimes pet scissors can be over priced so a pair of round ended scissors would do just fine. The sort of scissors kids use. :)

:D I use hair- dresser's scissors on my Sheltie. They are very sharp and so do not catch and pull the hair. They do have pointed tips though, so I have to be careful and have lightning reflexes!

ok ill have a look on amazon, also does you shelties hair get knotted easily? as mine doesn't!

Hi @piggie.slave No, Bonnie's hair doesn't seem to ever get knotted. It can get a bit wet and sticky at the rear end if I allow it to grow longer but I have never found any knots or tangles. She tells me to get knotted when I want to brush her!:)):)):))

PS. You'll find hair-dresser's scissors in your local chemist or Boots.

I only have one long haired piggy, Flossie (Grey & white in avatar) I didn't know she was long haired when I bonded her from a rescue. She's a proper diva and really dislikes getting a hair cut so I found that when she has a bath, I do it whilst she's in the water - weirdly she behaves. Sat on a towel however is completely different. I use a pair of rounded scissors, I've tried beard trimmers - all sorts really.

i used to trim maisie's long sheltie skirt with a beard trimmer. worked really well and seemed more gentle and safer than scissors :)
