I have two guinea pigs one is a short haired one and one is a long haired one. I try to groom them everyday and when the long haired one need a haircut I try to give him one. The only thing is he absolutely hates it, he hates being brushed, he hates having a haircut and he hates being bathed, he squeals, wriggles and gets upset. I'm really struggling, does anyone have any tips that could help me out? Or know somewhere I could take him to be groomed or something I really need help on this one ! x

Bathing :( never bath mine unless apsolutaly nessesary
It is said that bathing not only strips the coat of oil's needed to condition the coat (you may have seen him whipe a milky substance
Out of his eye and then groom hims self with his paws , that is claimed to be a nateual conditioner .)

Bathing not only strips the oils it also takes away his personal smell .
Possibaly that is part of the reason he seens so angre :hmm:

I have 8 piggies in total. 4 boars and 4 sows. 1 boar and 1 sow are long haired.

The boys I give a bum bath to whenever they get dirty and smelly.

The girls generally do not get like this so I just use special small animals cleaning wipes to freshen them up as and when needed. However if they need a bath I give them one.

No-one is allowed to stink in my house

However the 2 long haired piggies need hair cuts and bathed each month to keep them clean.

My boy Jasper in my avatar is just the best. He will literally stand there eating his kale or a treat while you brush him and cut his hair and nails. He is not fussed on the bath but puts up with it and especially loves sitting in his towel on my lap while I blow dry his hair with my hair dryer. He really is a piggy sent from heaven

However the female we have Teddie is the opposite. It takes me and my teenage son to hold her and do all the above and we basically need a good lie down by the time we have finished :lol!:

I can only suggest that you see if you can get someone to help you and keep persevering and giving him treats etc to keep him occupied. The good thing about piggies is that they are all different. The not so good things about piggies is that they are all different. :lol!: A bit like us hoomans :lol!:

I agree !, I have one long hair and one short hair. only trim if necessary !.
try a tooth - brush grooming so he gets to know the brush and then the next size brush, etc, and hopefully that works

I have had a couple of long-haired pigs... I trim the back to make sure it stays off the ground. For mine, it's when it trails on the ground that it really gets to be a mess. They don't like it, but I try to plunk them on my lap, give them a carrot to distract them, and then snip in a hurry!

I have a couple of long haired piggies, nibbles is awful he hates being brushed, bathed or trimmed! I find wrapping his top half in a towel helps :-)

My 2 are pretty easy, they don't like being bathed so I just do bum baths when needed but no problems brushing I do it 3 times a day so they don't get knotty! I trim them to keep the fur off of the floor otherwise it gets much harder to keep nice. I put a towel over their heads so they think they are hiding :)
