A while ago @Wiebke asked me to write a Hair Cutting Guide. I have now got to the stage where I need the help you lovely peeps in Forum land.

What I would like is if any of you have any information of how you cut your piggies hair, pictures of how you position your pigs for a hair cut, before & after shots, what you bribe them with to keep still that kind of thing. I can't promise I shall use all of them, but I will use some of them. You will also get a mention on the forum and your piggie(s) will be famous! Oh and please don't forget to name your piggy too when sending over picture(s).

Thank you very much you wonderful people!

Well you have my photos of Poppy. I must admit I don't bribe them. I have one square of kitchen counter to the right of the hob by the backdoor which only ever gets used to dump keys, post and other bits and bobs on so I use it as my piggy care area too. I've been lucky that whilst the ones I have needed to trim have protested they have usually been quite good at staying still. I was also lucky in finding a pair of hairdressing scissors in my dad's craft stock when clearing the house after his death so I feel quite professional in my approach... Just a shame the end result is not as professional as I feel :))

I bribed Bacon with a bowl with some pellets in, but could’ve used veggies or hay (he’s a hay fiend)
I just used some scissors and he was sat in front of me (it was a spur of the moment thing -his hair has gotten dragged through something- so I wasn’t properly equipped!) he was fine and just sat still unless the scissors pulled his fur a bit

I don't have any photos, apologies, but I used to have Blitzen sitting over my shoulder with his head looking over my back because that was the way he was most comfortable sitting in general. He hated any form of grooming so if that's how he was comfortable, then so be it. It *did* mean I needed to take my glasses off (yay myopia) or use a mirror though because it's a really awkward angle to be working with.

I’m due to “tackle” Felix imminently..... if I can persuade the OH to help we might be able to get a couple of photos.

Bailey is due a pruning, I'll have to see if she feels like cooperating enough for before and after shots 😅

You’ve done a great job. My poor Leo (passed away in April) wasn’t best pleased with my attempt . I can’t say I blame him

Here is my before and after of my boy Finn's haircut. Hope this helps.

I use a tunnel, which is put in a plastic box. Currently, I don't have to use herbs anymore but in the beginning herbs helped. I finish cutting his hair while he is in this plastic bin. I make sure I get his bum hair, which I think is the most important part of hair cutting.

This is exactly what I was looking for picturewise!

My coronet Murphy is due a haircut in the next week. He is a very chunky pig (almost 1.5kg) and doesn't like haircuts much but I'll see if I can get some pigtures. He is very similar to the gorgeous Finn

Thanks that will be great. Betsy needs a bum trim in the next couple of weeks so I'll see if I can rope a friend in to video it while I snip away.

Felix has been poorly and I’m waiting for him to be well before I start hacking off his locks. But I will remember to get some photos or a video when I do it.

Thanks Vicki that would be great! Hope Felix is better soon. Healing wheaky wheaks being sent from my lot to Felix.

Sorry I don’t have a video or anything but I think the photos I put above are semi-decent

Bacon is generally quite well behaved when getting his fur cut so I've got no experience with a wriggly piggy!
