Scooter my long haired rosette piggy has got such long hair i am having to trim it regularly, or it becomes matted even with grooming which she hates as it pulls.

As I was trimming it this last week, my kids said "mum, why dont you knit with it, like they do with the dogs." so it got me thinking, do any of you with long haired piggys do anything apart from binning the hair.

I collect brushed off hair and put it out in the garden in spring for nesting birds - it's usually gone very quickly! :))

I wonder if you could spin wool from guinea pig fur... After all don't you get angora from rabbits?

I used to use wood shavings and the guinea pigs are very selective with their hay (they nibble the best bits from the hay rack, leaving the rest on the floor). I'd sweep the shavings, bits of hair, poo and hay up and put it in the compost bin, so it can be reused in the soil, which I grow their veggies in the summer!

I often catch my Dad (who has alopecia) looking longingly at the piles of freshly cut piggy hair. Maybe I should make him a pig wig.

I put some outside during the fine months (Wiebke mentioned she did this ages ago so i started to as well.......thanks Wiebke -c ) and the rest of the time it gets composted :)
