Lovely Betty has a lot of hair and its recently started to get matted underneath and dirty at the rear. Her actual bum looks perfectly clean. I cut the mats out amd brought a trio of brushes but she hates it! The squealing wasnt very nice even though it didnt feel like it was really pulling. I dont know whether its best just to trim it all?! Any advice?
Thanks

I would trim it too. Also just brush a little bit often to get her used to the brushing, she may never like it but they often fuss less once they get used to being brushed. I'm trying to get a young boar used to the brush at the moment, his hair is not long but it's dense and he gets a lot of shed hair caught up in matts if I don't brush the loose stuff out, to hear him you'd think I was using him as a pin cushion.

Try different types of brushes. My Swiss piggy likes one that's similar to my dogs slicker brush and has metal prongs but my late long haired boar hated it, I had to use a soft bristled brush with him (a bit like a baby's hairbrush). With my long haired he was a bit messy round the bum so I kept him nice and trim and made sure I brushed him regularly to stop it becoming a problem
