my Guinea pig Suke is going through a weird patch lately I was away for a few days my dad looked after my guinea pigs but when i came back Suke was really thin and had a lot of hair loss I assumed she missed me so gave her lots of veggies and cuddles and she gained weight excessivly where she looked quite plump then she went thin and lost hair again now at the min she's normal and her hair has grown back but is it something I should worry about or not? she eats normal and acts normal?

In which areas do you have hair loss? Hair loss never happens "just so" and always needs to be investigated!

I would strongly recommend that you take Suke to the vet and have her checked for
1) mites - hair loss mainly on the back, very painful skin, itching

2) fungus - hair loss often around the head or ear, but not necessarily. Hair comes often out in bunches, stuck to flake of skin. Not all fungal problems are due to ringworm.

3) ovarian cysts - hair loss mainly at the sides

the hair loss is at her back end around her back legs down to her belly and parts of hair was missing on her belly I have asked a local vet and they said its nothing to worry about but I'm not convinced not many vets in the area are knowledgable with guinea pigs so i doubt them knowing much on it

It sounds rather hormonal, as I suspected. I am glad that she has been seen by a vet and that it is not mites (he should have recognised the signs for that).

Could you try and contact the Cambridge Cavy Trust for advice and/or the address of a rodentologist, if there is one in your area?

If you want to find a piggy savvy vet, you need to look for one that specialises in exotics - as which guinea pigs are classed as.

Sorry - or get her to be seen by Helen's vet if possible! It is always difficult to make a diagnosis over the internet.

yes I will take her with me when I go to see about getting Babaru Neutered when I pick her up she complains a little as if she was in pain round her abdominal region which makes me think its ovarian too bless her hope I get her sorted soon is it possible that they could transfer it to other guinea pigs hope not as my other girls may get it
