had a cuddle with cookie today and she has thinning hair, and 2 bald patches, she as had mucky ears but have cleaned those.
shes not herself had cuddles normally she's a wiggly piggy and wont settle. even had chin rubs and fuss.
gave her some pepper and she ate half not like her.

i did give mite treatment 2-4 weeks ago just as a precaution not treatment to all piggies, but she took the fuss and attention and wasnt bitey/scratchy or irritable so not sure it is that.

she s eating and drinking and interacting with the other piggies, will phone up the vets tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had, had anything similar.

she isnt usually a friendly (people) piggy and will bite, but today she didnt.

sorry i'll stop rambling now

Where abouts are the bald patches and thinning of fur? First thing that springs to my my is ovarian cysts, my minnie was diagnosed 2 years ago and it was first suspected because her hair had thinned and her had a bald patch one side and a very thin area the other....

xx

Yes, think vets is a good idea. Often it's just that they're not quite right that rings alarm bells. How is her weight? Hope vet can suggest something & get her back to normal again.

Best wishes,

shiny

they are in that area. didnt think of that.

weight appears to be ok. i've packed my weight book :(

thanks sis. x

Has she seemed hormonal atall, perhaps a bit short tempered with her cage mates or trying to mount them?

I hope i am wrong. Good luck at the vets.

xx

no more than usual she tends to be the mounted one. currently tucking into supper. thanks hun will let you know. x

been to vets and she's going back on tuesday for an ultrasound. vets is 90% sure its ovarian cysts not kidneys so ultrasound and if it is she will have them removed whilst there. ill keep you updated.

butter went along for company and i had 2 piggy bums on show whilst there and all the way home rolleyes

xx

Good to hear your vet is investigating & has a plan for sorting it out. Fingers crossed it all goes well for Cookie :)

she had them removed.
she is now home keeping an eye on her and feeding her she isnt very interested in food but is making little noises. and has had a little bit of parsley.
fingers crossed she starts eating more.

Try a handful of grass from your back garden - best thing ever for tempting a guinea to eat. Poor girl must be feeling rubbish. Has she been sent home with any pain meds?

Oh I had no idea she was having this operation. I really hope she recovers soon.

no pain relief, shes been home 3 hours and syringe fed twice first time didnt take a lot had a small nibble or parsley.
just done the second one and she took some more and had some ribena and has eaten 2 sprigs of parsley and a piece of lettuce.
will keep an eye on her but she does seem more awake now.

i would give her grass but we live in a flat at the moment (til friday) so no chance till the weekend. xx

Hope she recovers soon and starts to feel better. Did the vet not give you any metacam to give for the next few days? I would definitely speak to them regarding this as she will be quite sore once the meds and GA are out her system...
Sending her lots of healing vibes x

I completely agree you should ask for Metacam. You're best chance at getting her to eat is having her pain free. A guinea in pain generally stops eating. Do give the vets a call in the morning about this. Best wishes, shiny

well she is back to her normal self. started eating by herself yesterday just veggies and nuggets and then last night shes eating hay again, and by this morning shes up and wheeking for breakfast as normal. then tucks into some nice fresh hay.

will still keep an eye on her but she seems back to her normal self :) xx

thanks :)

she is still ok even took the house move on friday in her stride :) the piggies settled in better than the kids did! xx
