Hi, my piggies came to me from a rescue last December and ever since have had very dry and flaky skin. They are teddy boars and I heard this was normal. It has however continued to get worse and they have balding patches now around their feet and rear end, with flakiness to it. I treated them with an anti flea/parasitic treatment and have since used invermectin treatment after the vets couldn't see anything under the microscope.
They still seem to be the same!
I have no information on their past or where they are from. The only other thing is they don't get along too well. Could this be causing this? Any thoughts? Otherwise they are fit and well

Hi!

Has your vet considered a fungal skin infection? How many rounds of ivermectin have you provided? A proper course consists of three rounds of good quality ivermectin.

'Teddy skin' caused by bad skin aeration can only be diagnosed after you have excluded all the other possible angles.

Please be aware that flea powders can be lethal for guinea pigs. Shop products are usually only geared towards the prevention, but the not the acute treatment of skin parasites and can only temporarily suppress but not heal and in the worst case help develop resistance.

What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
