I have these pigs for a while they r not related a but a year apart. I had ome that I got with some hair loss thought it was due to stress so I left her be in a room a lone when I got her n it started to grow back on her sides now she is losin it again n has one black spot on her back n it's falling out when I touch her n I noticed to nite her pee is very dark m I am very worried about her. Now my youngest is losing hair by her neck n it's red ish pink to n kind of warm n I did give her a bath on Friday on September 16th 2015 n I am now worried my other may have a fungal infection going on n spread it to my other or that she is allergic to something in my grandmas water or allge4ic to the baby shampoo I used if anyone has any idea please share them with me

Cammie is losing hair on both sides and on her head and up by her front legs n her pee is dark colored sometimes looks like blood not sure though. Rosebud just started losing hair on top between her head n back. Both are dring normal but I am very concerned I took them to the vet but rosebud wasn't losing any hair then. She was in perfect health. Cammie though the vet said it my be cysts on her ovaries going to go in soon and have an ultra sound done and decided what to do from there. If anyone has any idea on what else it might be please comment below I will but on pics later

Her is both of cammie sides an head if someone wants a pic of the urine sample I'll send it to u

it looks like it might be mites or fungal to me. usually cysts will cause thinning hair on just the sides of the body, although it isn't as common as you would think according to or vet.

what colour would you describe the darker urine as? the vets could perhaps do a basic urine sample test to check for the presence of blood initially :)

It is mainly hair loss on her sides n jus a Lil on her head n I was going to call the vet tomorrow I have sum urine for tests for him that he can do

All 3 topics merged. I appreciate you're worried, but can I kindly ask you not to start multiple topics on the same subject. ;)

I am thinking either mange mites or fungal too, even a combination problem, but only a vet can diagnose. I wouldn't rule out ovarian cysts yet either and would go with the scan the vet has suggested. If she did have cysts they could be making her run down and so she has become susceptible to mange mites or fungal. Fungal is likely to spread to other pigs if left untreated and that would explain why both pigs have it. The thinning hair on her sides could also be because she is uncomfortable and nibbling at herself.

Also in the last photo the skin looks very red which is one of the symptoms of fungal (fluoresced skin). Reading back up I now see that you have mentioned that. It is possible that the issues with both girls aren't even related.

Sorry to hear that both your piggies are poorly. I would suggest you take them both to see a vet as soon as possible.

Piggies health can deteriorate quickly so it is best to seek help from your vet as soon as possible.

As @helen105281 has advised it could be that they are infectious to each other or it could be a coincidence that they are both poorly at the same time.

Sending healing vibes. Hope to hear how they get on xx

If it's mites, ivermectin is the way to go, petshop sprays don't work, as I've found out too late
See to it that they drink well - our departed boar was parched on account of not being able to drink from the bottle - and I'm still kicking myself for not noticing in time...

Best of luck to you and them.

As well as emphasising @helen105281's and @Caron's Cavies's advice to take them straight to a vet I would advise extra hygiene after handling them too, as some fungal conditions in pigs can be infectious to humans too.
Note that the pigs may be in a lot of discomfort when touching the area too.
Please let us know what the vet says and good luck x

to me it lools like fung cuz iv had a pig that did have a fungal infectio.

Hi ,she is in a bit of a state!

How old? l would be thinking a combernation of problems , including hormonal !

If she were my pig l would take her to my vet ASAP for an examination , also weekly visits
would be usfull so vet could monitor her progess

Just thinking out loud !
she looks a bit run down, so if it were to be overean cyst/s
the standard opp (should they need removing) may be a bit of a strain on her,

so it might be an idea to think ahead in antisipation of an opperatiion to remove them

And as a precation as vet if he uses the flank entry , as opposed going in through
the tummy
if not ask of he knows a vet that dos,

it do,s make it so much less of a strain on a sow

well rosebuds hairless area is not bright red anymore n is back to normal with no fur. And i got to wondering could she have gotten this from my other girl and could my other girl cammie have more then one thing wrong with her like say a skin fungal which can spread for pig to pig easy and also cysts on her ovaries i got an app. with my vet Dr. Miller so see what to do with rosebud. And I am going to get that app. set up with the ultra sound for cammie we are going to be doing that as a class thing since i am in the vet tech program at my college so i will be able to be there with her and see what is wrong with her

It could well be more than one thing going on. I think you are right to get the scan, even just for rule out purposes. If it is fungal too I think the usual medication in the US is Sporanox (Itraconazole) which is given orally. For mange mites treatment is usually with Ivermectin.
