Posset seems to be displaying symptoms that I've not seen if a guinea pig before. All the fur on her grease gland is suddenly very short! It's not bald and the fur still seems nice and thick, but it's much shorter than the rest of fur and it never used to be like this. Her grease gland also seems a little crusty, so she will be given a good wash in the coming days.

We've also ordered some Ivermectin just in case it is mites and will get some anti-fungal shampoo (I know not the bathe for a couple of days after the Ivermectin) as her skin looks a little scaly, although there's no sores and she does not appear to be itching.

I've not got any photos at the minute (poor Posset has been prodded and poked enough times today!) but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what might be causing this? We recently got a new piggy, but she was quarantined for two weeks before she was introduced, so I don't know if this has anything to do with Posset's hair loss.

Thoughts?

Here are our tips for how to best deal with a crusty grease gland. they are more prevalent in boars than in sows, but can happen in either gender. it is very likely that Posset has self-barbered around her clogged grease gland.
