Hi All,

We’ve had our piggies or ‘granny pigs’ as my son thought they we called for around a month from pets at home. The last week I’ve noticed Waffle’s hair loss on his nose. I’ve not had him to the vet. Any ideas what this could be linked too? Pancake is fine. Thanks in advance for support!

Hi, Welcome please add your location.

Your pig looks like it has fungal, you need to seek vet attention whom will diagnose this or ring worm for you. Please be cautious as Ringworm is transmitted to humans, so you need to take every precaution not to handle your pigs without gloves and contaminating your clothes too, and both will likely have to be treated. However it's important your vet diagnoses this for you.

speedy recovery x

Thanks for your reply Mother Hubbard. Aah no, we’ve been touching them and giving cuddles as normal so really hope it isn’t ringworm!

I’ll look about getting a vets appointment tomorrow.

Is this preventable in anyway? We are new owners so learning as we go!

Thank you x

awww your very welcome.
Fingers and paws crossed for you.

Fungal - well in my humble and 'non expert' opinion, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact reason for an exact case. Their can be many factors, environmental - temperature/humidity/contamination from outsourced area...as I say difficult. However it is treatable so getting your piggies diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible will reduce their discomfort and pain.

I had fungal outbreak on indoor pigs whose environment was carefully controlled, I now have all outdoor pigs and had one outbreak of fungal - so go figure and that's after cleaning with F10 disinfectant weekly! Go figure....:flag:

Welcome to the forum
Hope your piggy can be easily treated.
I’m no expert and have no idea how long a fungal infection takes to show but if they came from PAH with the infection then they should cover the vets costs.

Here is our Ringworm guide should you need it
Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

It is not uncommon for new pigs to come down with fungal infections as they get stressed from the move from breeder to Pet Shop and to their new home.

it says I'm ignoring you Helen 105281, how do I sort that out, so you become one one of my bestest friends again. Wonder what button I pushed :hb:

Not too sure, must be in settings somewhere. One of the admins should know. Though you won't see this either. Will tag @sport_billy
