Rosie a 5 1/2yr sow has symmetrical hair loss over the side of her abdomen. I realise that this is a symptom of cystic overies but is there any other conditions which might cause this. She recently went for a check up and the vet didn't mention anything about mites etc. Why I'm asking is that about 31/2 yrs ago she had major surgery to remove lymph glands and was supposed to have been spayed at the same time. I am going to speak to the vets tomorrow to confirm. Many thanks.

Hair loss is common in sows with cystic ovaries, but there are other conditions that can cause hair loss. Best check with the vet whether her ovaries were removed when she had her lymph glands removed.

Hopefully they will be able to confirm if she was spayed tomorrow as it does sound like hairloss from ovarian cysts. I would find that out first and then consider other options like fungal, vitamin deficiency etc.
