Hi folks, just after some advice about Benny, he has started to make a wheezing noise when I pick him up - only when I pick him up and it's not due to me squeezing him as I've let him stand on my hand and he still did it.

He was making a really quiet wimpering noise before whilst he was in his cage, I went to check him out and he stopped and then carried on with his normal piggie behaviour.

I got him out and gave him a checking over and that's when I noticed the hair loss. It is right between his front legs, sort of chest/under chin area. Not noticeable unless you turn him on his back. It doesn't look red or sore and I couldn't see any signs of creepy crawlies, it's just bald.

Any ideas? I'm going to ring the vets tomorrow but just thought I'd see if anyone has experienced any of this before. Thanks.

I honestly dont have a clue about the hairloss, but does he live on his own? The wheezing/noises sounds like a respiratory infection, but i honestly dont really know exactly.

Let us all know how you get on at the vets tomorrow.

x.

He lives with Frankie who has none of the symptoms Benny has. Me and OH are searching various websites but think we're scaring ourselves rather than diagnosing Benny. Thanks for the reply, hopefully I'll have a diagnosis tomorrow and it wont be anything serious.

Aw, they really do scare us at times the little darlings :x
A vet visit really is the best option, if it's a URI, a course of antibiotics should do the deed. Probiotics are recommended as well as abx are a little harsh on their tummies :(
Hair loss, I have no experience of and have associated it in the past to stress or mites, neither of which your boy appears to have :{
Please keep us updated on his visit and progression and sending little man healing vibes x>>
I have a Frankie and Benny too btw who are coming up to a year old :))

Aww, thank you. We have an appointment booked for after lunch. I'll be taking Frankie as well mainly to keep Benny company. They will be 3 in December and this is their first vet trip! Pretty amazing considering they came from P@H!

Another Frankie and Benny :)) cute.

Well, the vet listened to both the boys chest's and could hear 'crackling' in both, although Benny more so. He gave them both an injection of antibiotics (which they protested to) and he has given me Baytril to syringe into them once a day - that should be fun!

He couldn't see any signs of mites or flaky skin so put the hairloss down to Benny being too hot due to his respiritory infection.

So relieved it doesn't seem to be anything life threatening but would like to know how they got it. Now I need to look up how to successfully syringe meds to a guinea! WIsh me luck folks :))
