After cleaning him out today, I decided I'd have a little time with him on the couch to see how he's getting on - don't want to do it too often at the moment as he's obviously still a little frightened (makes me feel worse given that he's still on his own).

Took him downstairs to the sofa and placed him on a towel on my lap. He's still not taking food from me as him being a little frightened and wary is still too much of a distraction for him at the moment, but I put a piece of carrot before him just incase he changed his mind!
Had him out for...no more than ten minutes I'd say.

A lot of the time he was vibrating/trembling which after doing my wee bit of research means he was pretty scared. In the future I will NOT stroke the rump (wish I'd known that before) and focus my attenion on his head and behind the ears where I would have thought they wouldn't like, but apprently prefer.
I feel quite bad, but it's been about 2 weeks now and feel that a handling session every few days might help from now on. Cannot WAIT to get my rescue, but sadly my new cage from zooplus still hasn't arrived and it's been nearly a week. So until I get that, Hamish is on his own :(
Maybe I should wait until I've to introduce him to the new guinea to handle him again.

What do you guys think?

Ah shut me up - just as I click the 'post' button the door goes and my cage has arrived!

*dances round like a mad man*

It's huge! :(|)

The piggie gets a new home, and I get to play in the box afterwards, it feels like christmas has come early! Haha!

Haha, which one have you ordered? I have just ordered from there now, I am worrying it is big enough for me, I am going to have nothing to put it on! :o

A good way to get a scared piggy to being on your body is letting it crawl under your pullover.

That said - make sure that you're wearing an old t-shirt and underwear in case piggy relaxes too much...

Toffee&Teddy - it's the Guinea Pig and Rabbit Maxi XXL, if that helps? When the guy brought it out I was in total shock at the size of the box - it is much larger than my previous one - and I'm very happy with it I must say! I'm gonna go get myself some new toys to put in it :<>

Wiebke - haha! Yeh that's certainly a plan! The towel was there just incase of that reason - but I wasn't wearing a big ol' zippy for him to hide in. I shall try that next time...

yay new cage cant wait to see it set up :) yes definately a towel and have spare underwear believe me i have a pig who likes to wee on me making me have to run up for a change of underwear!

The pees of a relaxed piggie are always bigger than one expects - and somehow always go on my panties as well... mallethead

If piggy starts wiggling or nibbling, better put him back into the cage!

Wow that's a lotta pee! 0-0

When cleaning him out today I realised just how wet and stained the newspaper was beneath the hay - never realised just how much he liked to piddle! With the new guy that's gonna be doubled...quite daunting!

I may have come up with a plan to join the two cages together to make even more space...but I am going to have to see if it'll work first...and get lotsa new accessories also :<>
