CharlottiesPiggies

almost like....chirruping? and he only makes it when fergie isnt with him or she runs off from him, what does that mean? is it like calling her back, none of the others make it, so i presume its a boar thing?

Nobody knows why Guinea Pigs chirp but it is rare. When we lost our Sheltie Cuzzy in November Peter put him in a box to run free to the bridge and Twinkle (who is extremely independent) started chirping, like he was calling all the pigs together to say goodbye. It was really moving and comforting.

I don't think it is a boar thing, I've read about sows doing it to. You are very lucky to have heard it. :)

Yes Louise i agree, feel honoured to have heard this :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Louise each time you regale this story i start to feel :( :( :( again for little Cuzzy 0:) but i'm so glad Twinkle did this it will be a forever memory for you both :smitten: :smitten:

Aww I know Glynis, I've accepted Cuzzy is gone now and we will never really know why he passed away. I feel he was the runt of the litter as he was very tiny and probably had other problems, the result of his mam being bred back to back I guess. (He was a pet shop pig.) I know my Twinkle is a little Critter most of the time but he showed great sensitivity when saying goodbye to Cuzzy. Poor Sunshine though looked terrified. When I tried to bond the three of them it was Cuzzy that went for Sunshine while Twinkle was always Cuzzy's mate.
:smitten:

yeh its almost like he's gritting his teeth REALLY quickly especially when rosie or merry get close to him and he does it when Fergies nasty to him too, its all very hormonal and hectic outside ::)

Is he chattering? If so I'd watch carefully incase he flys at one of them. :)

Mmmm it does sound more like teeth chattering which is a sign of aggression.

yeh it does sound more like that, he does when fergie tells him off, but he hasnt bitten any of the girls or anything, he just does it as a warning i think.

He is probably just making sure they are aware he is the boss, this was the same with Digby and he sorted them all out and put them in line although he never messes with Tilly lol Just make sure they dont go for each other O0

One of my boars, Patch, has been making this noise too. At first when I heard it I thought it was a bird. It's lovely. He's started making this noise since his cage has been moved next to the girls' cage. I think he is serenading them :smitten:

I'm keeping an MP4 close by to see if I can get a recording of it!

I have heard the chirping twice...could have been boars or sows, had both in the same room both times :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Its eerie, but really comforting....

I would say what you are describing sounds more like teeth chattering though (sign of anger)

As soon as Murphy and Romey are apart he starts to chirp it is very high pitched and his sides go in and out as if he is using ever part of him to call her back. She responds to it as well, when she is on my lap as soon as he does it she lifts her head up and squeeks back and she wants to be down off my lap to get back to him. :smitten:

IMO its definatley a call for them to be together again. :smitten:

yeh Hamish made ALOT of teeth chattering to all the girls (mainly Fergie) once I put them all in together, so assumed it was like a YOUR NOT THE BOSS OF ME NOW! thing, but then he gave in

poor guy

I had heard a sample of the churping on a gp site and it was a little eery.....One night I was up by myself and heard it coming from the cage. I could not tell if it was from the boy or girl but it has happened a few times. Now that they had babies I wonder if it was related to mating....I felt honored too to hear such a special song.
