Sorry I know this bit is for the guinea pigs. But I'm quite worried and u guys have always been helpful with any guinea questions I've had.
I rescued a hamster last week. And I've just noticed he has cut his back, it must have happened in the last day or two. It's very hard to tell how bad it is as he won't stop moving! Lol. But there is some hair missing and I seen blood. I think it's like blood under the skin but I only seen it for about a second. I've checked everything in the cage and there's nothing sharp apart from a carrot house I got him. It seemed quite sharp so I've removed it. He seems totally fine and I think unaware that it's even there. Should I take him to the vet? Or is there something I can do? As I'm working 9-7 tomorrow. And the vets are only open 10-6. And I can't leave work as I'm in charge. I'm really worried. :( Any help would be great :

Thank you. I've managed to get a better look and it's like a big slice :( and there is wet blood there. It is quite a big open wound

I do not know anything about hamsters but personally, I would take him to the vet as he may be in pain and it could get infected. It would put your mind at rest.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking especially now that I have seen how bad it is. Hopefully I can get someone to cover me at work for a wee while so I can nip into the vet :(

If it is a big slice may need help to seal it. Hamsters are rather hardy lil things but def get him checked if you can tomo and get him some pain relief. What could he have cut himself open with?

Well the only sharp thing I have found is this carrot house. It's only made of cardboard then the stuff on top. But the edges on the door seen quite sharp. It definitely wasn't like that when I got it. And I got the guineas the bigger version and that's been fine

I think maybe he has continually rubbed it over the same bit. Cause I dont think it's sharp enough to do that straight away

I cannot imagine that would have caused it. I was going to buy one of those once. He could have got cut before you got him and now it is worse?

My hamster a few years back knocked his eye out after falling onto his food bowl so accidents can happen anywhere. He had an op to remove it and then survived another year. Good old Billy. Good luck at the vets. Keep us posted.

Yeah well there's nothing sharp enough to cut him like that straight away. He must have cut it a wee bit and then just gradually made it worse. I feel so bad for him! :(.
I've put him back in his cage now and he's just running about like everything is ok lol

Aww well that is a good sign.

My mum has just phoned me and it turns out little peanut is a girl! Lol. I thought that, but the people in the pet shop said no it was a boy.
The vet said she is ok and it isn't infected. And has given me some ointment to put on twice a day :)
