Jeniva
Junior Guinea Pig
I had Han since he was a baby. He had a very hard life and lots of issues. When he was only a few months old his cage mate caused him multiple abscesses. This involved lots of vet trips, cleaning, flushing, operations, and a post op infection. Eventually he was clear of abscesses and he was separated from his cage mate.
Han suffered diarrhea and messy poo's for the majority of his life. I also got him tested, on lots of antibiotics, worming treatment etc - and had no luck. He was still a good size and seemed fairly happy so we just powered through with lots of bum cleaning and careful diet not to upset him stomach more.
Chewie, Han's old cage mate and neighbor, suddenly passed away unexpectedly. Han was totally alone. After trying to bond him with 6 males and lots of drives to the rescue, I gave in and had him neutered about a month and a half ago. He'd lost a bit of weight by this point as he was a bit miserable and had been treated for worming etc to try solve his stomach.
He got through his neutering and I finally got him two gorgeous girl piggies from a rescue. He loved the girls! Even when the girls told him to off he'd run around popcorning.
Unfortunately Han was noticeably a lot smaller than the girls, his weight had declined and the girls were HUGE. But in light of this his stomach had magically gone back to normal! He was pooping perfect little poo's!
Despite his stomach seemingly cured, he suddenly got bad poo again and became lethargic. In a space of a couple of days he stopped eating.
I took Han to a local vet, not thinking he'd make it to the specialist. I began to syringe feed him and split him from the girls to give him peace.
He survived another night with no improvement, so I took him to the specialist. The specialist took him away and put him on a drip.
I rang this morning to find out he had died. The vet has yet to ring me to give me a bit more light on what happened, but last time I spoke to him he had found nothing in Han's mucousy poo to suggest an infection.
It's been a shock that his stomach went from bad, to good, to dead.
I tried all I could for my little man and I'm heart broken. He was finally happy with his girls, only to have a few weeks with them before he became so ill
Han was the best natured piggie, he was so well behaved.
I'll miss him dearly
He was only about 3 years old.
