Junior Guinea Pig
My lovely, wonderful Six turned four on Wednesday
Here are some pictures of him, the first day I got him, when we moved to Wales, begging for food, mid chew(!) and a video of when I first put him on fleece.
I got him from a pet shop with his brother Lune at one of the lowest points in my life.
A friend had a pair of guinea pigs that she didn't want anymore so she said I could have them, so I bought a cage and was all set to take them. Then she changed her mind and decided she wanted to keep them afterall. I was pretty sad, but about a week later I went into a pet shop on a whim (it didn't usually have any animals, just supplies and whatnot) and there in the middle of the shop were two small guinea pigs - I remember seeing Six's bum sticking out from under some willow sticks. I went home and decided I was going to go back and get them, so a couple of days later, I went back with a pet carrier and bought them. The man in the petshop asked if I had a really big cage because they were boys and needed space I said yes (it was actually just 1m long!) he then helped me put them in the carrier - although for some reason we couldn't close the lid properly, so I had to carry the box. I kept the receipt he gave me for ages. I only lived up the road, so I walked back to the flat, talking to them the whole way home. I got a few odd looks!
Six was always the shy one with humans, hiding behind Lune, coming second to get food, not letting you stroke him in the cage, would wriggle and wouldn't settle on your lap. But he was the dominant one in his relationship with Lune, always mounting him and rumble strutting about! He was also the most excitable, he would do mad laps of the cage and I'll never forget the first time I put him on fleece, he was popcorning about all over the place for ages!
Then Lune died at the start of this year (I still well up when I think about him) and Six was by himself - he would just sit in the corner of the cage and wouldn't come at all when you called. We quickly got him a new friend, a baby called Cap, and suddenly, Six was like a whole new guinea pig! Suddenly he was the first one to come when you called or had a food, he'd run up your arm because he was so keen for a cuddle, he'd sit for ages having a stroke, it seemed like he came into his own showing Cap the ropes as it were. I always said Cap reminded me of Six when he was younger, they were definitely cut from the same cloth, Cap was as daft and excitable as Six was. Unfortunately they fell out a few months back, but live side by side.
Happy birthday my special little Six, I love you so much x
(P.S. we call him Monsieur Six because his name is pronounced 'cease')
