Hello! A few months ago, I adopted a two year old boar, Tahdig, whose two brothers had just died. According to his previous owners, he had never been very social and liked hiding a lot. When I got him, he hid almost all the time and wasn't eating much. He slowly warmed up to me, started eating normally, would hang out outside his hidey, etc. However, he seemed to have no interest in me picking him up, and it was quite an effort getting him out when I had to clean his cage.

I adopted a month old boar, Strudel. I put them together after appropriate bonding protocol and they've both been so much happier. Strudel used to hate veggies but has taken a liking to them now I guess because his big brother does, and they both popcorn A TON. I expect it of Strudel as he's young, but I didn't realize he would get Tahdig more excited too. I take good care of their cage, mix it up with toys, etc.

The only thing that worries is me that they both have NO interest in play time. When I manage to get them out, I put them in a little play area I make in the kitchen walled off by cardboard boxes and stuff so they can't run off. I would estimate its about 10 by 10 feet? Sometimes they run around, but mostly they''ll find a hiding spot and stay there, usually together. I can tell they hate when I try to take them out and run around trying to evade me.

I only worry that they won't get enough excercise. They have a 47 inch x 24 inch cage. Strudel does a lot of laps but Tahdig not so much. I also worry that they're afraid of me after I take them out. Any advice or info? Thanks!

sometimes when guinea pigs are new to floortime they are very wary of there surroundings.maybe place tunnels, hides with two entrances, and fleece over the area so that they do not feel so vunerable, mine sleep alot in there hides in there indoor run,but love running through tunnels,my guinea pigs range from 8 months to 7 years old.with time your piggies will be more confident !

Mine will still find somewhere to hide when out for playtime.
The pan stand in the kitchen is a favourite place.
It takes time for piggies to get used to the larger space for playtime.
I have a wooden bridge which I use to let mine in and out of their cage so I don’t stress them by trying to catch them.

The wooden cage sounds great, I just have their cage raised up on op of crates because I find it easier to clean that way and they can be eye level with me. I've tried attaching their big in-cage ramp to the door, which hasn't worked, but maybe I need to be more creative...thanks!
