It’s just occurred to me that 3 years (and 1 month) ago I rescued Opal and Olive!
I still remember very clearly the terrible conditions they and their friends/ family lived in. There would have easily been 30+ piggies in the bottom of an outside bird aviary. Living on the soil, and ONLY fed on carrots, and the odd bit of seed the canaries would drop. At the time I wasn’t yet a resident in Australia so i wasn’t planning on keeping pigs. I was with a friend and we rescued about 9 in total.
I cried and cried when I got in the car. It was awful, I hated leaving the rest behind. We reported him to the rspca.
when we got home I choose Opal and Olive to come and live with me temporarily until I found a loving forever home. Ha. Yes of course I ended up keeping them and am now an Aus resident.
Opal and Olive are both petite pigs due to their terrible start in life. 3 years later Opal weighs about 850kg and little Olive just around 800kg. But they are both full of personality, happy and healthy! Well, Olive has a very very slight heart murmur. And Opal sometimes gets a bit of an upset tummy but considering their start that’s not bad.
They have had 3 different boyfriends, all whom they get/got along with (rainbow bridge Spike and Patrick). Their big sister Mary who is their rock. And also helped support rescue rainbow bridge Wilma through her short time with us.
I did offer them to befriend Lottie but Olive took a huge disliking to her which was not expected!
They’ve also put up with many random birds I’ve rescued.
Anyway.. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Opal and Olive. Here’s to many more happy years!
First 2 photos were the day I got them.
