Hi, everyone! So I'm in the process of adopting the two lovely sisters you see in my avatar, Eleanor and Lucy, from a shelter. We met them this past Sunday, and I'd not spent much time with guinea pigs before then, so I was a bit apprehensive, but my fiancé and I quickly fell in love with them. While I was holding Lucy (the one being sat upon by her sister), she would vibrate like she was purring, and I'm fairly sure that it was because she was enjoying it! But I know their angry sounds can also be similar, and I know we're unfamiliar to her, so she might have been freaked out. She seemed to be perfectly calm in my arms, relaxing against me and letting me pet her. But do you think I could have been mistaken by her reaction?

Thanks!
Ashlee

Hard to tell without hearing the noise.

Even if she was making the grrrr grrr noise it doesn't mean she was angry merely a little nervous and feeling perturbed. It will quieten down the more you do lap time so try not to worry.. Very early days yet... She may however have been purring, I have never heard a piggy do this apart from megan once.

When you get them you'll learn what they like and what they don't for instance, Widget loves head and nose rubs but doesn't like chin rubs. Whereas Sasppy used to adore chin rubs and would lift her chin up for you to fuss her but hated her head touched.

I think your piggies names are beautiful, look forward to hearing about there arrival, any questions we'll try and help

Usually my pig does this when he is feeling nervous or uncertain. For instance, some music with intense base makes him do this. Or when he hears a loud noise he doesn't recognize. She will get over that. Some people do say that it is purring, like a cat, however, mine seems to do it when he's nervous and I've never met a pig who didn't.

It's hard to tell. Our Willow was soft and placid in the rescue and she has since turned into a dominant terror :)) :)) she's not impossible to handle but she's certainly making us work hard at building that bond.

I would honestly at though that the love from bonding with a piggy who is more wary and takes longer to settle with you is so much more rewarding, its like you have really earned their trust
