Hard lump near nipple

I'm on holiday at the moment and my friend who's looking after the pigs took all of my 6 girls to have their claws clipped yesterday.While the vet nurse was clipping blackies nails she noticed a lump near her nipple.She called one of the vets in to take a look and the vet said about doing a biopsy or removing it completely.I'm thinking of going for the biopsy as I'd like to know what it is.Does anyone have any experience of lumps on guinea pigs and what they could be?
 
I would go with the biopsy to. It will help you decide what to do next. Peanut had an abcess removed earlier this year. I'm so glad I had it done, he's now bouncing around and back to his old self.

Hi!

Fatty lumps, cysts or - connected to the nipple - a mammary tumour (benign or malign) can all appear in this area. Even an abscess.
The majority are harmless, but they should all be vet checked.
Depending on whether the lump is rubbing on the floor and getting in the way, removal is recommended even for harmless lumps. A removal in toto with a biopsy afterwards is often better as nothing can spread into the body that way, just to be on the safe side.

How quickly you need to act depends also whether a lump contines to grow very quickly or whether it stops; runaway growth can affect abscesses, cysts, lipomas (fatty lumps) or tumours and requires an emergency operation or in the case of an absecess lancing.
Otherwise you have time to consider any next steps.
