Hi everyone. A couple of days ago I felt a hard lump under Poppy's chin, on her jaw. It is quite far back (sort of on the bit under your ear in humans?) and also sort of feels like bone, but its definitely not the same at both sides. I do stroke her under her chin, although not usually that far back, but I've never noticed it before.
A couple of years ago she had some dental problems and had teeth filed/removed on the same side. Could it be something to do with that? The vets have quite extensive notes about that treatment, she is booked in tomorrow evening so I'll ask them to look at it and see if anything is mentioned.

My first thought was abscess but I hadn't imagined abscesses to be so hard.

I am now really worried about her. She is eating fine and seems healthy aside from some ongoing skin things that are being treated. But after our recent experience with Dora (RIP) and surgery I just can't face any more. Plus we've just got Poppy a new companion too, I really hope nothing terrible happens to her :'( :'(

Update on this, Poppy got the all clear at the vet. The vet thinks the lump that can be felt is the roots of her teeth. Apparently some piggies and other critters experience a malformation or overgrowth of the roots, so they can be felt on the jawline. They don't cause any problems. There was a reference to Poppy having this problem on her historical vet notes from when she had her dental procedure over 2yrs ago, however it is odd that I've only recently noticed it. There is some symmetry to it but 1 side is slightly more pronounced than the other. Mabel (Poppy's new friend) also got a clean bill of health :)
