I've had my boys now for four months and they are getting much better at being handled. They were very wild indeed so for the first few weeks they got basic handling. Now they are getting proper inspections.
I clipped their claws yesterday and we had foot inspection at the same time. Both have what seems to be granulated skin on their front feet. These little lumpy bits could be packed in dirt but could also be hard skin. Soaking the foot in warm water softened these lumps and they came away quite easily. Underneath, the skin of their feet looks quite normal. There was no squeaking or other signs of distress when I removed the hard skin/lumps of filth.
I've never seen this before - maybe I have had very clean pigs before now! I just wondered how common it is for this to happen.
