We’ve had an ongoing issue with Wyatt and under chin/potential dental abscesses.
After two drainings and most recently a course of Zithromax the sites are clearing and producing less puss/debris.

Above one of the sites I’ve been cleaning there has been another very solid lump that I’ve expected is another “pocket” where the seal hasn’t been broken yet. I was going to speak to the vet about it at our next check up.

However this evening as I was cleaning and applying pressure to the hole immediately below the skin broke and a white area appeared. I thought the site had finally ruptured and applied gentle pressure but not much happened. Wiping a cotton ball over it made no difference, so I had a feel of it and was shocked to discover it was hard, like plastic! I tried a bit more warm massaging but no change. It feels fairly solid and immovable under the surface. I don’t want to attempt any more without knowing what I’m dealing with so I’ve cleaned with hibi and left for now.

I’ve left it and will make an appointment with our vet tomorrow but has anyone ever seen anything like this? Photo below.

I should mention that he is still very happy in himself and eating/drinking as normal. His inscisors have now also maintained alignment for two weeks.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I am linking in @furryfriends (TEAS) for you; she is our "Abscess Queen".

In my experience with Hywel and his incisor root/jaw abscess it meant that the opening had healed shut.

Let us know how you get on with the vet. Never seen anything like this. It can't be causing to many problems if he's eating & happy in his self.

Aww bless, could it be a bit of overgrown, backward growing or wrongly aligned tooth/tooth root?
Good luck at the vets-hope it's easily sorted. healing vibes and speedy recovery love the girls & I xx

That’s all I could think of and it’s freaking me out a bit. Not sure what they could do if that is the case :soz:

Sorry I have no experience of anything like this. Think I would request an x-ray (slight sedation-not general anaesthetic preferably) to see if that shows up any issues with his jaw or teeth?
Could it be this that's caused the abscess in the first place? I would ask your vet for their advice on it.

It's great news that he's still happy, eating & pooping tho :D
Xx

Yes he’s a real little fighter, this has been going on since July and he just hasn’t given up once!

Our guinea vet isn’t working today so we’ve had to wait until monday for an appointment. He’s ok in himself so just going to keep the area clean and try not to freak out too much in the interim. >.<

Back from a sleepover and successful surgery at the vets!

It seems most likely that it’s a tooth root gone awol, so it’s been cut out and smoothed off ... now it’s a waiting game to see what happens next.

Fingers crossed it just grows back normally, but for now little man is his usual chipper self and it’s nice to have him home without bits poking from his chin! Thanks all for your input and thoughts x

He's gorgeous, I hope he recovers quickly.
