hard time squeaking..

my newest guineapig doesnt talk too much, but when he REALLY squeaks its like hes having a really hard time breathing. is there such thing as guinea pig asthma? i dont think its hurting him or anything hes fine. but i watch to see and try to hear if it is coming from his nose or throat and I'm not too sure of which..but..yeah =/
 
i think some piggies are quieter than others. To put your mind at rest, have him checked for poss URI at the vets...

do they take blood from him?
i have 16 days to bring him back or not..if he makes it that long ill take him, i dont have much money and going to the vets is like 50$ god knows how much to get tests taken =[
 
No they don't need to take blood. They should listen to his chest, and give him anti biotics.

Was this pig from Petco? you should never buy animals from Petco, they have a strong chance of being in poor health due to their treatment/living conditions

Coupled with the fact their animal welfare record is less than good, I would suggest you don't buy from them again.

If his breathing continues to get worse, he gets crusty eyes or a runny nose, and starts hunching himself up, it's time to go to the vet, no matter how much it costs.
 
no crusty eyes, no runny nose. just has a hard time breathing. hes become more friendly, more talkative. its only when he squeaks VERY loudly like when they are getting food squeak.


my dog used to sound like that and it was something in her nose blocking the air. i know its differant, but it was when my dog was exausted and breathing heavily.
 
Ok, well just keep a close eye on him for any odd signs.
 
My youngest piggy Curly sounded like he was losing his voice - we had him checked out at the vets who listened to his chest, which was clear thankfully, so i think he had just squeaked and shouted so much his voice had gone raspy!
Listen out for any kind of "clicking" sounds as this can be a sign of liquid in the lungs, and also look for runny eyes and nose. Anything like this, or anything you're not happy with, you need to take him to the vet.
If its a chest infection this can usually be cleared up easily with antibiotics.
