I noticed that my boy Finn has been running out of his room and stare at me for a few minutes as I put on my coat to leave for work. He really acts like a tiny little dog with his trusting, innocent eyes. He has had his one year birthday a couple months ago and raised by only me since he was a little baby. I am also noticing him paying more attention to what I am doing around the house.

I just wondered if I am seeing things or do piggies really know when their owners are leaving and feeling sad about it. I just love my pets and want to stay with them all the time, and I feel like my boy Finn knows this and feels the same way. I could totally be seeing things though and piggies don't really know anything other than eating and etc.

What do you make of Finn's behavior when I leave the house, particularly him running towards me and staring at me for a few minutes?

Awwww What a little cutie.... you must have a lovely bond

Sounds like he really loves you, the only thing I could suggest it maybe leaving a radio on for him when you go out so that it doesn't feel so empty and quiet for him, at least there will be some background noise for him

Thanks for all the lovely responses.

Finn does have Lara close by keeping him company although they live in separate cages but Lara can be very vocal.
Lara came to me from a friend who didn't want her, so I gave her a home. I was looking for a cagemate for my boy Finn but saw Lara being neglected and didn't want her to be homeless, so she is our family now.

I have 6 hamsters along with Finn and Lara, which makes it difficult to get anymore pets. 8 pets are enough when I give each and one of them plenty of food, clean environment, love and attention they need to thrive.

My exotic vet told me it is better to neuter a boy than a girl. Problem with this is I never planned on getting my boy Finn fixed as I was looking for a cagemate for him not a girlfrind to have babies with.

The hospital also told me the risk of them not waking up after a surgery is very high compared to cats and dogs, so I don't the want to risk the surgery. Finn is my boy so I decided no surgery for him.

He is still a baby and hasn't lived long enough to risk a surgery to fix him. Even if there is small chance he won't wake up it isn't worth it.
In all honesty, it is more of my issue that I don't want to lose him. It just won't be right with me.
