Hi
I changed my sows food to SS grainless and one have them has a very hard tummy? Could it mean it could be to much fibre? Is one of the highest in fibre and least calcium carbonate so thought it would be good. Seem not. Anyone else had this? She was on burgess excel before. The mint one.

Did you switch gradually or just all in one go?
My two are currently changing from excel to ss grainless but I’ve not noticed any problems with my boys.

Very gradually over, they have been on it before and she had a hard tummy so switched her to mint burgess then tried introducing even slower but still had a hard tummy. Maybe she is struggling with the higher fibre

They're built to eat an extremely high fibre diet, if shes ok eating hay, the fibre in the pellets wont cause an issue. There might be something else in them thats causing an issue though maybe? One of mine cant have it because she's intolerant to peas and pea products which it contains, it's a good food though, shouldn't cause any issues with a healthy piggy :)

I switched both of my pigs to this. Gradually over a week and they were fine

I've switched my girls to SS grainless from Oxbow baby guinea pig food and they've been okay. Could something else be causing the hard tummy - does she seem bloated? I'm definitely not an expert and someone more experienced may be able to advise :)

For a hard tummy if it is bloat. I give 1ml syringe of infacol . 1 buscopan crushed and tip in a syringe then suck up water ( gold packet buscopan from boots counter) then 1ml gripe water. Bloat went really fast. Thats if it is bloat. My vet said this is safe to give and it worked a treat. Give each seperate. Not mixed all in 1

We don’t recommend home treating on spec @Skypipdot. Furthermore we don’t recommend infacol for bloat as it works by making one big gas bubble rather than dispersing the gas in smaller bubbles. This can make it more painful for piggies.

Ok, it worked great though. I wont post any messages like this again. I did learn this info from this forum and nothing was said to that member

It probably slipped through. We can’t read monitor and comment on every post. Dentinox is preferable to Infacol, and gripe water is perfectly safe. It’s just infacol we are wary of.

Ok i will probably throw the infacol away then

Ok thanks guys you seen perfectly fine she’s eating and pooing fine and it no softening up since changing her back. It’s definitely the SS grainless she must be sensitive to the higher fibre. Thanks
