My Barny is just over a year old I keep him indoors and clean him out twice a day. He is acting fairly normal and eating but there has been very little, hardly any pooh in his cage today. He has eaten fresh grass and a few small veggies and plenty of his hay but not sure abut the nuggets as he spreads them all out around his cage. I am a little bit worried because of the lack of pooh, he is normally pretty messy and does lots of normal poohs. I let him out for a good run around the room tonight and he seemed happy exploring and pop corning and it seemed to stimulate a couple of poohs. The few poohs he has done seem to be normal, firm and regular shaped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It's always good to routinely weigh them as that's sometimes the best indication that something isn't right.

It could mean that he ate a bit less a few days ago.

Give him a good few hours of floor time, that tends to generare a lot of poos from my boys.

Thank you, It looks like he is eating all of the pooh he is doing too but he has just tucked into his morning veggies and is now on his hay.

hi Colin and welcome to this forum!:wel:
One day I also noticed something similar with a piggie of mine. Her weight was 20-30grams more than I had expected for and there was less poo than usual. I did nothing different and I only gave her more vegs, the one she usually prefers. The day after her poo was normal again and she lost those 30g.
I think a little fluctuation in weight and poo is normal both for them and for us...

Eating the poo is normal and good, because they absorb the nutrients and the vit B contained in foods which cannot be absorbed during a so fast digestion, as piggies have. But when they eat too many poos, I have read it might be a necessity due to different reasons, maybe even something which is not working fine into the gut or too few nutrients in the diet. There are vegs which are made of water only and have no nutritional value and few fibres (cucumber for example, but also iceberg and some salad grown too fast).
I would suggest fresh grass, rich of nutrients and fibres, if your piggie has already got used to the grass (if not, give him only a handful)
