Half an hour ago when I went to give my gang their bedtime greens and hay I found my lovely beautiful Harold at peace in his log cabin.
Totally shocked, he was wheeking for them yesterday evening and appeared his usual self this morning. His bottom looked a little dirty and he looked like he had been cleaning himself, maybe he had bloat, I just dont know.
He was only two years old.
We swaddled him in his fleece blankey and buried him in his cabin in the front garden next to the christmas tree.
Wanda has lost her life long friend, I dont know if she will accept anyone else as she never has tolerated any pig other than Harold.
At the moment our knee jerk reaction is to rehome the pigs we have, but I am sure once this grief passes we will change our minds.
Harold was a lover not a hater, peaceful and friendly, live and let live kind of pig. Only yesterday we laughed when he popcorned inside his fleece tube and the whole tube jumped up in the air with him. A perfect partner for Wanda who was clearly in charge, happy to let her have her own way.
I cradled him in my arms for a while before we buried him and told him we will always love him and he will never be forgotten.
I thought we would have him for a good few years yet and regret not spending near enough time with him.
RIP Harold, I love you so much x
