right well my two pigs are constantly wanting food! normally they get a hammock full of hay, dryed food contantly and fruit n veg during day and there NORMALLY happy with that.

however!, the past week all theve done is want more and more food, i dont wanna keep feeding them more because i dont want them gettin fat mallethead what should i do?

My two would eat every minute of every day if they could. Every time we go into kitchen and make a noise they wheek, any time a bag rustles they wheek. We go back into the living room where the cage is and they are literally begging. I find it so hard to resist giving them something and quite often I give in. They probably get a bit more veg than they should :(

I give mine veg in the mornings and evenings. They have pellets hay and fresh water. I do not feed them everytime the fridge door opens. They can wheek all they like. They get food when its time. And I let them know as well.lol

god i thought i was just mine! they are eating me out of house and home! Ive taken to giving them veg in the morning and evening now at they make such a fuss when they hear rustling from the fridge!

Cleo even waits up the top by the food and makes sooooo much noise until she is fed - even though she (and the others) have dry food and hay all day long!

....then again - that would explain why she's so fat!

I give unlimited meadow hay and limit timothy hay and pellets (one bowl a day) with adult piggies. The pellets have a much higher calorie density than what they have evolved to eat, which is basically grazing on grass (which it's quite tough to get the nutrients out of) all day long. The meadow hay provides the graze and the higher quality hay, pellets and veggies provide additional nutrients.

It's not a kindness for them to get fat as it can cause health problems and limit their mobility. That said overweight piggies shouldn't be put on a diet as such - they should always have access to good quality hay and be encouraged to run a round with lots of toys and floor time.

I used to put all the pellets in those little feed balls you get so they had to work for it, but Amber and Priscilla never worked them out. I haven't tried marmaduke with one yet.

I used to have to give mine pellets 3 times a day because they would keep bullying me! I have since weaned them out of this habit by feeding them their veg in the afternoon. I give them a handful and a half in the morning, veg in the afternoon and some more pellets in the evening. Hay constantly of course. It keeps them a bit quieter :))

If mine wheek for extra rations the get a handfull of timothy hay regardless if they have already got some. It keeps them quiet. :))

mine love there timothy hay.. they go mad for it! but what dont help is all they will eat is apple and bit of lettuce, they refuse point blank to eat any other fruit/vege. how can i get them to eat bit more veg so they wont get as hungry?

Mine have the hay and pelets all day and i have split the fresh food so get some in morning and then some again in the evening and they both seem happy with that. But mine also go in their runs in the afternoon to early evening so get plenty of execise aswell.

My 2 that are inside can hear a bag russel a mile off lol.
You only have to walk past the cage and Betty is up against the bars with her nose poking through like a Charles Dickens orphan character, she'd literally eat every minute of the day if I let her.
My youngest daughter calls her Betty fat pants lol.

I take the dried food out when I put the fresh food in. I put it back in a couple of hours later. It encouraged my girls to try new things when they realised there was nothing else. It also encourages them to eat more hay. You can also try hiding little bits of food in a big hay pile as piggies love to find things.
I usually have to present a new food that they're not keen on quite a few times until they will try it. There's only a few things that they really won't eat (I gave them some dill once and they hid in the house until I took it away:(|)). I think their tastes have changed too. They refused to eat celery at all when they were little but I tried it again a while ago and it is now a favourite.

Its a piggie thing, i cant even get up in the night without them wheeking for something. As long as they have unlimited hay and a few pellets then they wont starve. I given mine fresh fruit/veg in the mornings and evenings.

x.

It works for me to give them some hay when they keep on wheeking for food.
I feel sooo bad when they wheek, and I have to say no. So, I bring them fresh hay (even though they have a pile in there) and that usually keeps them quite for a while. :(|)
They will sometimes wheek and wheek, and start popcorning when I walk past, how can you not give them something when they are soooooo cute! x)

I'm going to try the whole taking dry food out and puttin fresh food in because maybe if they see that there only going to have fresh food for an hour or so they might try it :)
