Hi guys i wondered if anyone could help me with this it's driving me insane i found this on reggie this morning his had what i thought was a scab there for a while but now it looks like this!?

My first thought was omg! his got flystrike, because i saw some flies round the hutch the other day, but on closer inspection there are no maggots on it at all and rather than being an open wound its more like a hard lump, a bit like an over grown wart and it carries on underneath his skin, so now I'm of course thinking the worst like skin cancer or something, I just wondered if anyone else had any other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ann x

I had a hamster that had something similar to that.

I would get it checked out by a vet for sure.

Thank you for replying,
yeah his got a appointment for Monday morning, I'm just so worried about him now, although he seems completely normal otherwise!

That is good to hear! Hope it goes well for you.

Do you weigh him? Just curious if there's been a change...

yeah i used to weigh him a lot but I'm a lot less obsessed with it lately and he used to be nearly 3lb, he does seem a bit smaller these days i will weigh him again in a bit to see if there is much difference!

Yeah, because that can tell you a lot about their health. Even if they seem perfectly healthy, they can hide illness very well. Let me know what you find out! :)

yeah i've just weighed him and he has lost a little bit of weight his now just about 2 and a half pounds!

Oh dear that looks sore! I've never seen anything like that, hope it's not serious and the vets can fix him x

thank you he doesn't seem at all bothered about it so it can't be too painful at least i hope it isn't bless him!

oh dear poor reggie! Hope everything goes okay at the vets on monday - let us know how you get on!

Looks like a abcess/cyst. Bubbleberry had one, it never went away, but it never caused her any trouble at all. We just kept it nice and clean and tried to keep the hair out of it:) The vet said there wasnt really anything else to do about it, and since it didnt cause trouble, there wouldnt be any point anyway apart from the fact its not very asthetically pleasing! -c

thanks everyone at least i can relax a bit now i know that there are other things it could be apart from the dreaded 'c' word! x

Ruptured cyst, keep clean, no creams, ointments nor antibiotics. Leave well alone, it is a common condition, one of those things that bothers the owner, not the pig!
Be aware of the "It cannot be left alone, something must be done" temptation.
Fear not, cancer is extremely rare in guinea pigs.

Welcome back Ann, sorry never seen this myself. Esme has a cyst but nothing has burst as yet.

Hope you and the family are well. x
