Has anyone successfully reintroduced two fighting boars?

I have two pigs, Spartacus and Perseus. Spartacus is 3 and Perseus is a little less than 1 year old. They lived together peacefully for the whole time we've had Perseus, but started to fight more after they had a playdate with a friend's pig. Perseus is younger, but he tends to be the aggressor because he has a lot of energy. Recently, we found Spartacus bleeding with a lip wound, and separated the two so he could heal and because there had been some biting. We're not sure if Perseus bit his face (we don't think he did). When we have tried to reintroduce them, Spartacus has acted scared and tense toward Perseus, running away and chattering whenever Perseus got close, even if the younger pig was being friendly. The reintroduction ended with them in a full fight, rolling around. We have them in separate cages near each other right now.

Has anyone successfully reintroduced two fighting boys? I'm worried that they won't be able to live together. But I'm also confused because they used to be fine with each other. They weren't fighting over food, and they each had enough space. We had the two of them in a 2 x 4 cage.

Welcome.
Sorry to hear about the break up. Once blood is drawn, they pretty much made up their minds and decided they won't get back together. Living next to each other will be better for the both of them.

Sadly I would not recommend that you try to reintroduce them again.

It’s such a shame this has happened. Play dates are for humans not piggies. Each time you introduce another piggy they have to sort out the hierarchy. And this is not kind for piggies. I am not sure where this current trend for “play dates” has come from although I do have my suspicions and in this respect the internet is a real pain.

Boar trios are usually destined to fail. And even though your trio was a “play date” and not permanent it has sadly done what we always caution members against - it has upset the bond between your bonded pair.

Your boars are unlikely to ever go back together so it’s time to consider plan B. Either keeping them side by side for company or neutering them both and getting them a sow partner once they are 6 weeks post neuter.
