I'm awaiting delivery of a number of hutches and runs, probs won't be til the end of the month. In the meantime I want to let all my piggies have a bit of garden time and wondered......
is it possible to contain them under the "lids" of their cages or would they be able to escape. I've got a Nero 4, 2 Nero 3s and 2 zooplus cages. Each has 2 piggies in.
What do you reckon?

I've done that before under close supervision and mine were fine, I just thought it was better than nothing at the time, I couldn't fit the hidey houses in so I had to improvise with cardboard boxes which they didn't mind.

ummm not sure. The lid being the wire/bars? Ive done this indoors sometimes but I wouldnt be too happy doing that outside. :-\

Sorry, meant Zoozone not Zooplus. These have plastic sides so would be quite difficult to anchor whereas the Neros, I thought, could be pegged down with tent pegs?

When i first got my pigs and they were really young i didn't have a run so i decided to put them in the top of their cage...to my horror one of them was scared by a large noise and forced himself through the bars...i was in a state of shock after that lol.
Luckily we have an enclosed garden so he was easy to catch. I wouldn't recommend it if your pigs are small.

The plastic ones might be ok but you will need to watch them just incase

i use my nero cage top outside with my boys i also have a wire grid this that bends bit like a play pen but its not overly big so i put their cage top down open the door, and put the grid mesh thing to form another part of cage if you get me? gives them more space to run around outside

I would say if they are adults it not a problem! You could, like people have said use tent pegs to hold it down!

About a week ago, I was cleaning out and doing 10 things at once so put chucky and her little sow on the floor and put the nero 4 wire top over them..i dropped a waterbottle and the little one jumped and before i knew it ran straight through the bars and was next to me on the carpet :o ;D Just make sure that cant happen! Nearly gave me a heartattack and i was inside! ;D

ive got mine in living room on a towel with a cage of top,, just whilst i clean them out. I'm gonna buy a run for outside,

I've only ever done that whilst I've been watching them in the garden, it works perfectly fine but I'm not sure I would have much faith in leaving them there on their own. I'm mainly worried about foxes and cats that live behind me. If they were inside I shouldn't think it would be a problem O0

i do this occassionaly, and it works alright, but i've always been watching them, keep a close eye out. :)

Thanks all. They're all big/adult bar 2 that are about 10 wheeks old. I'll try it at the weekend but not all of them at once :o In the meanitime they'll have to put up with floor time and fresh grass etc that I bring in for them :)
Roll on hutch delivery and roll on summer
