Hi i myself is just over a major cold and well i have noticed today that jasmine has a bit of runny eyes more lethargic than usual and she keeps sneezing bless her what i don't know is are colds from humans go to piggy's and if so how serious can a cold in a piggy be ?

Guine pigs do not catch "human colds2, so there is no need to worry about that.
Can you please let us have more deatails about the problems your pig is having?

Is she eating well? Are her eyes sunken and partly closed, or just moist around her eyelids?

her eyes look a bit sunken in and she keeps squinting them and this morning she was lying all puffed up and i have never seen her like this and she keeps sneezing she has also started getting the shivers and its warm in here summer isnt shivering

It depends on the virus or bacteria causing your cold. I do not handle my guinea pigs when I'm ill because I would hate for them to get it, but the answer is yes and no, depending on what caused your illness. You should probably take her to the vet though, they'll know best.

To me it sounds like the start of a URI. The puffed up coat is a concern, as is the shivering. Have your vets left an emergency number on their answering machine? The sooner you can get antibiotics for her, the better.

i called my emergency vet and i have a appointment to take her in tonight she is eating and drinking which is good but when i held her her breathing was loud and a bit clicky she even bit my arm and jasmine doesn't bite i am really concerned

The clicking is a classic sign of URI. It is good news that she is eating and drinking. Sounds like you've caught her pretty early, the antibiotics should help get her back to normal. Good luck at your appointment later.

Yes, colds from humans can go to piggy's. If a piggy has a cold you should take it very serious.

The sooner she gets antibiotics the better.

Hope she is getting well soon !

"Yes, colds from humans can go to piggy's. If a piggy has a cold you should take it very serious".

What evidence is there to support this statement?

alicesterpigs please don't start a argument or heated talk on my thread as my jasmine is poorly that's why i have posted and after talking to ccc4 i now don't think it's a cold but maybe a chest infection anyway i will find out tonight as i have a emergancy vets appointment please please don't start any conflict instead you could send healing vibes to jasmine ? thank you all for your support and will post once she has seen the vet tonight xx

Sending lots of healing vibes to a darling little princess from Angel, Chestnut, Eli & Me.
Get well soon darling xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AWW I hope she's better asap. Good thing you noticed and managed to get her an emergency appointment.

Give her plenty of vitamin c heavy veggies if she's eating ok (check the food thread to see what's highest). Might help strengthen her immune.

Ok just been to vet with jasmine and he had a good look at her and has decided i have to watch her over the next 24-48 hours if she isn't any better i to take her back and she might need antibiotics no reassure for me tho he said she seems bright but i know she isn't herself and he said the puffing up is showing she isn't right but he didn't do anything for her tonight. :-(

Hope she feels better soon.

The vet you visited did he have knowledge of guinea pigs? As i know some vets don't have a clue about piggys. Maybe you should have a look at this thread and see if there is vets near you that you can take here to tomorrow, personally i would take her to more knowledgeable vets and sure someone here will be able to point you in the right direction as i got told about a very good vets if i ever need one and it puts my mind at rest.

Sorry i didn't realise. A friend of mine took his dog to the rspca and they didn't charge for seeing him just asked for a small donation, could you try a local rspca?

i have a vet for them the pdsa hun just not too happy because i know she is still not right and don't have a clue what's wrong with her xx

Sounds like a start of a URI and she needs baytril to help clear it up.
I hope when you take her back they will give you some.

Sending healing vibes for her. :)

read the previous posts alcesterpigs all her symptoms are stated there. xx

When you go back tomorrow tell them about the clicky chest and ask for baytril directly. It's so frustrating when they don't listen.

i mentioned the clicky noise tonight and he didn't say anything i will observe her and if she gets any worse or no better she is going right back! xx

Runny eyes, sneezing, lethargic, clicky breathing.

How old is she, has she lost any weight, does she want to eat, is she unable to eat, is she drinking, has she got diarrhea, has she any skin problems, does she squeak when she wees, is there any chance she has been poisoned in any way, is she moving at all, can she walk in a straight line, has she got a head tilt, has her heart been checked, does she have cystic ovaries?

Alcesterpigs is not trying to start an arguement, he is simply trying to get the facts and with those I'm sure he will offer his guidance as best he can.

Guinea pigs do not get human colds, they get upper respiratory infections. It would be beneficial if you could get a second opinion from another vet. Is there another at the same practice?

her abdomen feels fine apparently to the vet she is eating and drinking he checked her heart aswell and that was ok apparently aswell she hasn't been poisoned as she never gets out her cage without supervision her poops are still ok it's just the top symptoms she is showing and puffing up aswell

Yet more questions, not so many, my typing, one fingered is so slow!

What is her condition like now, improving, stable or deteriorating?
Have you given her a pain killer?

I must go and look after my pigs, I shall return!
