Guinea-Tia-Flossie

I noticed yesterday that Flossie's eye was looking abit puffy and watery.

She has previously had a bit of hay stuck in it before, but i removed it and took her to the vet and she was given the all clear.

Anyway, I looked in her eye and couldn't see anything! I have been looking at her eye about every hour. But today the puffyness went down after i'd given her some eye gel. I noticed a small stratch on her eye.

It is now just cloudy. I think she can see, but i'm not sure.

Any ideas as to what may have happened? Your advice would be really appricated, I'm really worried!

Here is a picture of her eye today. The picture is blury though.

If you have some Optrex put a couple of drops in her eye. If she closes her eye put the drop on the closed eye so when she opens it it goes in. ....sorry just re -read your post & you've put eye gel in already!
In Vedras keep it easy guide to pigs it says that you can expect the eye to be cloudy for about 1 week after a bump or scratch.

Optrex is really good for cleaning & refreshing. It saved one of my mums pigs eyes when the vet said to remove the eye ball. She treated it 2x a day with Optrex & it was as good as new in a week!

I would give the CTT a call anyway. Good luck.

If you can actually see a scratch on her eye, you'll need to observe it very carefully as she may need antibiotic eye drops. If it ulcerates, it could turn very nasty.
It's not unusual for a guineas eye to cloud over, even if there has only been a superficial injury.

Obviously see your vet asap if there is any change. Hope she is okay :)

I agree with whats all ready been said when did she have hay in her eye? if it was very recent the eyes cloudy to help it heal a protective thing, if it was a while ago it could be a cataract starting, just keep doing what you are doing and keep a close eye on things no pun intended, lol, lily who died this morning had a cloudy eye but due to her age it was a cataract, muffin also has one, shes a sweetheart by the way

The cloudiness is the bodies way of resting the eye to let it heal. You might see blood vessels start to grow across the eye too, that is also for healing. If a white discharge develops she may need antibiotic eye drops or even oral antibiotics to help it heal, so keep an eye on it.

Tiddles(Tia) and Mimi's(Maria) eyes look like that and have done since i got them and they can see perfectly well, the vet said they where both fine, though your piggie doesnt look as old as them so i would keep an eye on it and take her to the vet if it gets worse x
