Hello! I recently got two guinea pigs. They’re both small, and so they’re fairly young. In any case, I had to return one of them to receive vet care because she had a swollen eyelid and would sneeze occasionally. My other girl I had been bright eyed and displayed no signed of illness such as crusty eyes or nose. However, just this morning she had a sneezing fit. She sneezed several times in a row within about ten minutes. It has completely stopped now, but I would like to know if this is normal or if any of your cavies have sneezed and been okay. Her cage is mainly fleece with a “kitchen area”. The bedding there is paper based. She is being fed Apple Orchard hay. I’ve also notice that my husband has had some allergies, so I’m wondering if it’s something in the air from the change of seasons.

My young guinea pig sneezed loads the other night, it worried me too, i got him out of his pile hay and he was covered in the fine dusty parts of the hay. This is was caused it. Just keep a close eye on him and look out for loss.of appetite, staying in one spot, crusty eyes, no poos. If any of these things happen go to a vet. But I'm sure hes just snorted some dusty hay up his nose

Oh! I should mention that I’ve also experienced some mild allergies. As for my girl who is still at home, she is currently eating and she keeps going back to drink from her water bottle (she probably more than any of my other guinea pigs have XD)

Thank you! I hope that’s the case. The episode started after she started eating, and when I picked her up she pooped a couple times on me...

Guinea pigs seem to drink to wash down nuggets after every mouthfull and go back and forth. Sometimes you can see the backwash of nuggets inside the water bottle, or gunk from the nuggets left on the spout of the bottle.my young pig when i first got him.he drank almost a full water bottle a day, now not much atall

Delicious :)) thank you! It helps to hear from others who went through something similar to my situation. I’ll keep an eye on her, and I guess I shouldn’t worry about her drinking problem...not that kind of drinking problem

But alot of drinking can be diabeties. Dont wanna worry you . Thats all i know on that though

Is there any nasal discharge or eye discharge? If so, or if she continues to sneeze often, I would get her checked out. If it's just an isolated sneezing fit, it's probably that something just irritated her nasal cavity and this is just her getting rid of it. One of my pigs, Leela, does sneeze more than any other pig we've ever had. She isn't sick, she is just sneezy. She must have a sensitive nose!

I think she does. Her eyes are clear and she has no discharge. I haven’t heard her sneeze since. So far, she’s been eating and drinking normally. Her poops look normal and the little stinker peed on the couch :))
