i hate to be a worry wort but neiher hawkeye or hotlips have come out of the hidy all day...there both in the cardboard box one i put in the play pen which is a bit bigger i looked in on them and they seem to be ok ..... is this something they might normaly do from time to time ah hawkeye just came out to eat at the food bowls the hay i will put more in as they must have been eating it off and on when i was out of the room ....
weekly weight checks ok something new now what kind of scale do i need and where do i get one... they pretty much look like they havent lost any weight so thats good... and there eating good so should be alright until i can get a scale and find out how much they weigh and how much they should weigh... a picture would help so hubby will know what hes looking for and where to look.... obviesly asking the pet store people if there was anything else i needed after getting a starter list of things to get was a mastake....no matter how much you try to research you can never get all the infomation you need which i knew going in but i figured if your selling guinnie pigs you would proubly at least know what was needed to take care of them....stores no longer sell books on the animals they sell iv had animals of all kinds in 67 years until recently if i got one i had never had before id pick up a few books and they would pretty much tell me all i needed to know including illness to look out for with pictures diet what there homes should be and how big...everything in detail including pitures these days they are nonexhested and you dont get the same kind of information on the internet regardless of how many sights you go to and not all sights have the same information it can be confusing i really do wish they would go back to books ahh well just my age showing again lol frountly i found this sight and my two new little ones will have wha they need and what they would like to make them happy
Digital kitchen scales are best. Something up to 2kg in weight (or the equivalent for you) would be my advice if you can find one.
But for the time being only check weekly. While we always advise regular weigh ins every week and then daily if we're worried or they're ill, from experience it's a little too easy to worry about slight weight drops that turn out to be either simply the weight of a full vs empty bladder or something equally benign. It does nobody's health any good to be constantly on edge about their health, anxiety can do a number on our wellbeing.
As above digital kitchen scales are great and have a snuggle sack or bowl for them to sit in. I will attach a link.
Also nothing to do with age I'm with you on the book front I love a real book my local library is one of my favourite places after the guinea pig room of course
thank you every one for the wounderful advice they are both much more active today still eating well and drinkng well perhaps they just wanted to try out the second hidy which is actually bigger then the castle one i bought when i first bought raidar its an empty amzon box that christmas presents came inlol or perhaps they where just enjoying cuddling up in there lol got another large peace of fleece and will be changing it out with whats in there now.. and washing the one i take out actually i was just remembering when i first got hawkeye she and raidar spent most of a day in the castle hidy i remember they seemed so happy to be together again sigh i just dont know what happened to poor raidar but the fact that hawkeye and hotlips spent most of yesterday in the bigger hidy together snuggled up together i think is a good sign there not just shairing a space anymore they are bonding with each other iv been looking for signs of bonding between them...hawkeye just needed the time to heal which is faster then i thought it would take...but like i said its a good sign i also didnt take into conderation that iv changed the housing i dont have the large cage thing i had raidar and hawkeye with glass sides so what hawkey and hotlips have is the playpen all the time with a couple of hidys they still dont seem impressed with the soft bed like things i got for each of them with ahalf cover over the top i may take one out and see if i can incress the cover makining them more inclosed with a smaller opening i'll work on one and if it comes out i'll do the other if not well theres still one in there should they decide to use it lol but i think making it more like a cave with a smaller opening would be more appeling to them humm there back in the cardboard hidy again huum here i could use some advice should i call the vet tomarrow or wait and see how things go for a few days? maybe there just waiting for the house to get a good cleaning it really needs it but i didnt want to take the orginal one out to soon as it had raidars sent on it anyway theres nothing i can do today regardless... i'll check the lists of foods they can eat besides guinnie pig pellets and hay humm wherei have the playpen now is where i used to have my sewing machine and theres a wall light there i used to make it easer for my old eyes to see iv been turning it on andleaving it on since i moved the playpen over there perhaps could it be that with that light on it might just be to much light for them? could it be as a simple as that? well one easy way to find out i'll just simply turn that light off and see if they start spending more time out of the hidy... when i was younger i would have thought of that a lot sooner! grrr well best get to work on it lol and pray that will turn out to be the reason there spending so much time in the hidy!
started reading on the weight information section i'll see if i can print it out i limit my reading on the computer as much as possable as it can trigger my migrines and i still have several weeks befor my next botox series.... and yes i know i tend to write long posts particaly because i dont have to look at the screen to type added to a tendcy to rattle on something i have not learned not to do in 67 years! if i can figure out how to print out the care of ginnue pigs things like doing the weight and such i'll see if spike ( hubby) can.... . main reason i came on back on! I turned the light off that is on the wall by the piggys home and i do believe that was part of the problem as both hawkeye and hotlips are spending more time outside of the carboard hidy will countue to watch them off and on through out the day to see how there doing... and even out of the hidy they are staying close to each other a bonding is defently taking place its good to see i think hawkeye is a bit older then hotlips as hotlips watches hawkeye a lot and seems to take her cue for her... I'm glad you have a section on pet anxity....its helpful i suffer from panic anxity and agoraphobia which i have learned to deal with for the most part with the least amount of medacation KNOWING the problem is half the battle when you start feeling anxity is the time to start dealing with it... dont just sit and keep worrying i use a type of list system for like if your anxity seems to be around your piggys on the list put how many times have i checked on them in the last hour? i think more then twice might be a sign that your being overly concerned along side that how did they seem? eating drinking activy level is it normal if yes set a timmer and not check on them until the timer goes off once eventually you can lenghten the time on the timer and eventually may not even need it anymore.. you can write this down to so you can actually SEE that they are doing fine with time you will feel the need to check on them less often... also on you list put how much they usuly eat and drink a day that way you will not overly worry about weather there getting enough to eat or drink with the understanding that it will varry a little each day.... but if its about the same every day you know things are going as normal with your little ones... as well as writting down there weight every time you weigh them which will clearly show they are maintaining a good weight and not loosing weight or gaining to much weight before your guinnie starts looking to fat or skinny... the idea basically is to identify what you may have anxity about and clearly document it so you KNOW by your records weather theres reason for your anxity and if not hopefuly in time you can relax and enjoy your little friends more and not CAUSE them stress or anxity by your constant hovering...animals as far as i know are more in tuen with us then we relize and often there emotions anxity levels and such can be effected by ours well sorry if iv rattled on to long about things most people wouldnt have an intrest or need to know anyway
